Wales 2011 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Manual Galway Green
remapping

Hi Im thinking of getting my 2012 XS manual remapped up to the same output at the dynamic, ie another 40HP and 60NM of tourque Alive Tuning and others offer this upgrade.

So the question is, has anybody had any experience with professional remapping, as opposed to the plug in fuel flow rubbish. North Wales Land Rover Club

lots on here have remapped various FL2 over time, just put remap into the search function.

be careful with the 150/160bhp TD4 taking it up to the higher power/torque levels as various components including the turbo are different to the SD4 190bhp and you don't want to overstress those or the transmission components

Alive will generally be the best bet IMO as they know what they are doing, but they are pricey.

By your last sentence it seems you know the answer Thumbs Up

Lad down here had his 2008 TD4 done and has nothing but trouble since with power loss and total failure, but don't ask how please as I haven't a clue Thumbs Up If it wasn't so bad it'd be funny.

We had our previous FL2 mapped by Alive. Big difference in power and torque, as well as a decent serving in fuel too

And I have sampled an SD4, also fettled by Alive. That was a proper giggle Laughing
Enough to convince me to have my newly acquired SD4 done Thumbs Up

Thanks chaps, is there any way to determine exactly which engine I have? I ask as mine is one with the very audible turbo whistle which I love Laughing North Wales Land Rover Club

well your avatar says you have a 2011 SD4 which will be the 190bhp and im assuming auto gearbox.

the standard torque is basically the same for both TD4 and SD4 but the delivery and power curve are different due to different components.

I had my SD4 auto done, mapped to a stage 1 which equated to approx. 235bhp with a slight increase in torque. In real terms the car was smoother during normal driving, increased to about 37/38mpg from 33/34mpg (only measured for a short while so would have got better im sure) and made the engine seem quieter.

although not relevant in a 2 ton 4x4 the 0-60 time is about 8.7secs in standard form and a rough measurement once remapped put it about 8 secs.

As Mikey said... a proper giggle Laughing (but no so good on the fuel consumption Whistle )

Thanks RogB I think mine is actually the std TD4 as its definitely not got the go in it that an SD unit is supposed to have. North Wales Land Rover Club

does it show an SD4 or a TD4 badge on the back ?

if you open the bonnet do you have a series of short black plastic pipes across the top of the engine cover which indicates TD4 without DPF and 160bhp? (pre 2010)

if yours is a 2011 then it will be the midlife facelift model where the DPF was introduced and TD4 power dropped to 150bhp but im not sure if the 'pan pipes' were still there

the SD4 is just a single pipe across the back of the engine bay.

Now you come to mention it, it does indeed say TD4 on the back Embarassed

Single pipe along the top of the engine, no organ pipes, I dont really understand why they are there on some?

I think I will just give the chassis details to Alive and let them suggest something suitable.

the pipes are something to do with the changeover to FL2 having DPF fitted in 2010.

Don't think you will go far wrong with Alive. IIRC they are about £400-£500 for stage 1 on a FL2

I'm getting mine mapped by Celtic tuning down in Newquay for £250, they did my old Civic 2.2, Civic forums raved about the company and they were brilliant, very professional and do allot of research before releasing a map. They will refuse to map the car if further upgrades (if needed) have not been done.

Hello,
I am thinking about remapping mine (2011 SD4) by Celtic Tuning as well.
Have you had yours done and happy with the results?
Thank you.

I used a Blue Spark plug in chip - works great - better MPG, better torque, plus you can bypass the chip and return to normal in seconds.
Brought off ebay for less than £80.

I don't know much about this as I have always steered clear of remapping but I did once read an article in one of the car mechanics magazines where they had a good look at the remapping done by one company and discovered that all that had been done was to change the throttle sensitivity so that you had the impression of more power. I am sure that this isn't always the case. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
