Could be the timing chain (the one between the two camshafts) and its tensioner. |

Worn alternator pulley will give you excessive movement on the auxiliary belt tensioner and indeed the tensioner will make noise. |

Auxiliary belt tensioners pulleys wheels fail. Mine did. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Did some checking today. Removed the AUX belt and started up. no noise. Alternator pulley seems to be seized as it has no one-way function. Tensioner and idler pulleys seemed OK but I have just placed an order for new alternator+ tensioner+ idler pulley and belt. I guess this will do the trick |
