England 2007 Freelander 2 i6 HSE Auto Santorini Black

Never changed the plugs got some champions to put in tomorrow, just done the rear diff oil and now changing the anti-freeze, next week will be the auto box and possibly the belt at the same time.
Do have a set of winter wheels, doesn't get as cold/snowy as your neck of the woods but enough to put them on in November until march give or take. can't remember what make just that there down to 4mm so need some new ones. Common sense isn't very common.

Some recommendations for my fellow 3.2 owners

1) if we want a sub forum dedicated tot he 3.2 then we should ask Martin (the site owner). The site does accept donations, how important is the request?

2) When you start a new post include 3.2 in the subject if its 3.2 related, to make it easier to search (I see that many of you are already doing this)

As for the spark plug discussion

Quote:

Here is what I am doing

Spark Plug change interval - I change mine every 50,000 miles and I use Denso Iridium Spark Plug. Part # IKH20

Axel,

I did struggle with that reply

It can be hard to know how much information is appropriate

I think that Mrtafft is still struggling with the misfire and he will likely appreciate any help you could provide

In general I find that most people like to know that they are not alone in their struggle.

A few words of encouragement go a long way.

Thanks

Paul

England 2007 Freelander 2 i6 HSE Auto Stornoway Grey

I get a wee bit nerdy about things like VIN serial numbers and total numbers made, as well as originality. (See my web site: www.lotuselansprint.com as an example!).

Since my recent HSE i6 acquisition, I have been looking into its background. One of the things I wanted to identify was the build date. I have used Topix before to do the same for my XK when I first got that five years ago. Since then, Topix has gone all soppy and only deals with younger cars!

However, in doing searches here on our esteemed forum, I have found two very helpful resources. Since I like to share my nerdiness, I list them below for fellow i6 owners, present and future.

Firstly, there is usually a white label placed on the rear squab mounting assembly, which has the date on which it was fitted to the car as it went down the production line. Find it by lifting away the spare wheel cover in the boot and it is at the rear of the spare wheel well, as you look down at the car. Mine is in the photo below and, as you will see, as you look down into the spare wheel compartment, the label is upside down. Taking a photo allowed my old eyes to read it clearly the correct way up.

Secondly, perhaps of even more use, is the web site https://www.vindecoderz.com/ If you put your full VIN into the search box, it produces your entire build sheet, even for MY2007 FL2s. Lots of interesting information about how your i6 left the factory, including the build date. It saved me having to go to the local LR stealer to ask if they could print out the build sheet for me.

In my case, this threw up two slightly different dates. The earlier date in 2007 was [Thu] 22 Feb for the rear squab mounting assembly, whereas the listed build date was [Mon] 26 Feb. There has been some discussion on the forum about how long it took for a FL2 to be built on the production line. Once LR had the Halewood facility churning out the cars, it seems that the cars were able to be assembled within one day. However, in early 2007 the line was still getting fine tuned, I would guess, so I assume that would account for the two working day discrepancy in my car's case. Besides, there are varying determinations of what constitutes an actual 'build' date. I know that at that time JLR under Ford used build and dispatch dates and that subsequently they now also have an heritage date. For my i6, I'm going with the build sheet build date!

I have also extrapolated from the how-many-left site that only 562 (485 HSE, 45 SE, 25 XS, 7 GS) i6s were sold in the UK between late 2006 and mid 2008, when they were dropped from that market. I don't know how many i6s or Si4s were built for export, though some 35,807 petrol engined FL2s were sold in the USA (Taylor book). Considering that 443,957 FL2s in total were built, the petrol versions are a small and select percentage!

Going off to hang up my anorak now!

Tim

Thanks from i6 anoraks everywhere!

Thanks Tim, very useful data. I gave up on Topix as it's useless for any JLR vehicle pre-2014.

Tim,

My LR2 is with my Daughter at University right now.

She will come home in about a week and I will look for that label.

You are correct that my LR2 was built in 2007 but here we consider it a MY2008 (Why????? Reasons)

I purchased my LR2 new on the IDES OF MARCH 2008.

And I knew that it would be very dependable because nothing bad has ever happened on that date as far as I can tell

Thanks

Paul

Paul,

Built in late 2007, I'm guessing, then shipping would have taken a while, stuck at the docks clearing customs, then transported to dealers, say 6-10 weeks in all from build to delivery to you.

The JLR MYs are a law unto themselves - or the old marketing department, anyway! My understanding is that at that time MYs began in September, so your car, despite being built in 2007, would by then have been a MY2008.

Tim
