Can anybody tell me the difference between a manual/auto n/s driveshaft on a 6 speed auto 2011 sd4 freelander 2 please. I am trying to track down a shaking problem when put under load up a steep hill or when powering on a right hand lock that has started on my car It has been fine for 20,000 miles. |

Are you sure it is a drive shaft. I had a similar problem with a BMW a few years back when driving slowly, or letting the clutch out on reasonably steep hills and another vibration problem with my FL2 fairly recently when changing down in some gears. Both turned ot to be DMF related. |

Could be as well as a problem on the Haldex because of the torque windup.

I have now fitted a brand new n/s driveshaft, bottom wishbone and another complete strut assembly to prove the bits it cannot be. I have roadtested it this morning and it is exactly the same. One thing I have noticed is it is fine in sport mode so I am thinking it is in the gearbox now. I have taken this to a main dealer before and they did not want to know because car had been previosly damaged before I purchased it. Now I have changed all of the parts that may have been part of the repair I feel more confident to challenge them. I have owned it from 8k and this problem started at around 20k. Very frustrating as I really do like the car and there have been no other problems with it.

All Freelander 2's except the 2 wheel drive versions have a Haldex unit. Generation 3 was fitted to models built between 06 and 10, Generation 4 was fitted to MY11 onwards (September 2010). Unit is located just in front of the rear differential.

Turns out my first diagnosis was correct, that I had a driveshaft problem. Problem was I chose the wrong side when I fitted a new n/s shaft I have had the d/s drive shaft changed under warranty and all shaking now gone. It seems that driveshafts are not a big problem with freelanders but they get the odd one or two that play up. Thanks to everybody for there input. |

Looks like you have a bigger problem than mine. Hope they find you a gearbox soon. Did they try driveshafts? You would of thought the shake on mine was more than a worn cv joint. Best of luck |
