With regards to a LR hybrid cars

A friend of mine has just bough a 60 plate FFRR privately, the previous owner has replaced it with a RR Hybrid but hadn't done their research (more money than sense maybe) so was shocked to find that the RR didn't charge the batteries while it was on petrol power. LR don't/wont supply a charging point at his house, but other manufactures had offered to fit one FOC if he bought their electric/hybrid.

I still don't think LR/RR have grasped the whole electric market and the competition they face

Not the first time they will have shot themselves in the foot Rog and should think it will not be the last Rolling Eyes Seems manufacturers are developing these fancy cars but not the support network just to please Gov. and EU. If it wasn't so bad it'd be funny.

when I bought my current house 4 years ago, a council representative came round knocking on everyones doors offering free wall mounted car chargers, but sadly I couldn't have had one fitted at that time as the fuse box was still on coiled wire inserts so didn't conform to current standards. Ive since had it upgraded to a modern breaker box but the free offer has now disappeared. (not that im in the market for an electric car anyway but I would be sorely tempted with a defender hybrid if I had the money Very Happy )

I did have a 'free' electric charging point fitted at home, but then changed my mind and bought another FL2.
Its never been used (yet).

I notice that the petrol supply/ station firms are moving into electric charging, so it may become practical to own an electric vehicle. BP today bought Chargemaster, Shell already have a tame charging company.

If we are just worried about in town pollution then why not make the law say all cars must be able to travel say 25 - 50 miles without starting their petrol or diesel engines.

By the way, forget about saving money on electric powered vehicles, as I am sure we will be paying to use vehicles on the road by the mile quite soon. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

Metro in its 11th Year of (Extended) LR Warranty / Full LR Service History
(Expensive, but Trouble/Worry free - hopefully?)

Thanks LR NUT, very interesting read, especially the imminent change to the MLA chassis architecture.

Looking at this I guess that this is why the launch was delayed, and all Defenders will be at least be Hybrid and on the MLA chassis.

As the (tax) laws change I suspect that it will also have a plug in electric hybrid version which will do the necessary 50 miles on the electric charge. --- times change don't they?

PS I was recently told by someone connected with LR not to expect to see it this year as 'time is needed to make sure it is right'.

Amazing, time is needed to make sure it is right. Yeah right so a Land Rover without faults, the shock will kill us.
The delay in getting it to market whilst Jim Ratcliffe designs the competition https://www.theguardian.com/business/2018/feb/14/german-firm-to-build-successor-to-land-rover-defender

I’m going to wait for both cars to be on the market for at least a year. Then hopefully l can buy with confidence having read users reports. Thumbs Up Stevd 2008 Freelander2 SE Black SOLD

Autocar have yet another 3 page feature on the new Defender.
I can't see much in it that we don't already know or have guessed.

Due out fiscal year 2020-21.
Manufactured in Slovakia alongside Discovery.
Will use the new aluminium MLA chassis with longitudinal 4 and 6 pot in-line engines.
Auto transmission and permanent 4 wheel drive on all models.
2 wheelbases, 3 door 90, 5 door 110. (doesn't seem to include double cab on pick up?)
Rumoured to have styling clues pointing to old defender?
Described as Functional, Durable, Practical, with Off-road Expertise.
Priced between £40,000 (Rugged) and £70,000 (Luxurious) !

The Defender models will expand into a family of cars.
The Discovery likewise to cover Versatility and Breadth of Capabilty.
The Range Rover seems to be heading towards All Road Performance and Refinement. - they have licenced the Road Rover name?

As the Land Rover "Premium" brand moves onwards and upwards, I'm afraid that I may get left behind.
PS I didn't win the lottery again this evening!

My local dealer has told me to expect to see the car towards end of this year in showrooms. When nodoubt they will open the order books and have production booked for a year, very quickly.

If the rumours of £40k+ starting price are true l for one will not have one.

And really at that price the Discovery Sport is its competitor.

And finally above £40k list you have to pay an additional road tax of currently £310 per annum for 5 years. 2008 Freelander2 SE Black SOLD

The last County 90 I bought in 1997 was £23,000 list with the spec we ordered , although I seem to remember getting £3000 contribution as they were clearing the 300 TDi to bring in the TD5 . The Defender was never a “ cheap “ car . The bettter specced Isuzu and Toyota trucks are over £40,000 when vat is added . 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

I spoke to LR Taunton about the new Defender when I was looking at the FL2, sales guy now has me on his list, he mentioned they would be taking £1000 deposits around September and was expecting the Defender being available early (ish) 2019.

SWMBO was there also, and I didn't see a huge "NO" on her face - Although I'm usually wrong with these things Laughing

News of 2020 and £40k+ is rather disappointing Sad
