Some years ago I had a front spring snap on a Disco 2 - didn't notice until its MOT.
Changed BOTH front springs, job done.

A few posts up this thread I reported that my wife's Peugeot failed MOT in 2015 with two broken rear springs which I replaced. Last year after only about 5k miles and two years she failed again on one of the rear springs. Eurocarparts said that components are only guaranteed for a year so no luck there. I don't recall ever having spring problems until recent years so is this telling us something about modern steel quality?

(perhaps Donald Trump is correct in introducing tariffs on steel imports if the quality is poor Very Happy ) 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

I think it is more to do with steel quality as there have be many reports of failures in all sorts of steel components due to poor quality steel, which is frequently not up to specification, imported from guess where.

imported steel has been causing problems globally, and as far as im aware its all coming from China
imported coal is one reason why UK coal mines have all closed, its a lot cheaper, but you need approx. 4 times as much to burn at the same heat and efficiency as UK coal, and its mostly coming from Eastern Europe (and China I believe)

The world has invested heavily economically in China, and they are now waging an economic and technological war back onto the world. But they are only really any good at copying everyone else's ideas on a very tight budget so the quality of almost everything they produce is going to be in question.... but the finance monkeys don't care about quality, only cost.

There were some problems with some Japanese steel, though the steel was of a specific type it failed to conform with it's certification, and was used many car bodies, let's hope the crash tests were done with the below spec steel Rolling Eyes my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

I wonder if the Japanese imported their steel from China to then export it themselves Whistle

MMMM low profile tyres

17" rims, off-road regular at speed (up to 60mph), kerbs don't exist, what pot holes?
185K miles and not a suspension problem in sight.

You could be right, more tyre = easier life for the rest of the car.

And no I'm not tempting fate, the FL2 has gone (to a good home I hope), wife made me buy an Ewok, but sense prevailed and we now have a DS on 19" wheels! Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner

Not only cars, kids are taking a hammering in prams with low profile tyres on Australia's broken footpaths!
