I've owned 8 Volvos over the years and would not hesitate to go back to them - that's where I will look when my FL2 days are over No Longer the owner of a 2013MY Fuji White GS "Fiat Lux" a philosophy not a car |

If you can hold off for the new Defender it ain’t too far away Nick. Hopefully it’ll be a good replacement for Freelander 2 owners...

If you don’t need off road abilities, how about a spacious estate car? BMW 5 Series Touring? Audi A6 Avant? Both available with 4WD, notably the Audi Quattro system.

To be fair I think many other primarily RWD 4x4s would do the same thing - handbrake works on the rear wheels and without a 'proper' centre diff the transmission brake probably does too, leaving the front wheels free-wheeling. The comparison with the RR didn't look altogether fair either, as the RR seemed to be carrying quite a bit more momentum and was perhaps on a slightly less steep part of the slope. Remember that in Top Gear everything is staged.

Have to admit the X6 is awful - if you thought rear visibility in a ewok was bad the X6 is hideous - worse than than a letterbox!
