the oppostion

Had a bit of time whist waiting on a recall on the wifes car, so we took ourselves to the local garages to have a look whats out there

BMW - X3 - 2.0 something or other - felt like i have had a kidney punch after sitting in it for 5 minutes, the side bolsters were just painful, pushing in as if the seat was way too narrow, ruled that one out

BMW i8 would be like climbimg out of my office chair, with no wheels on it, up and over its side arm rests each time i got in or out, laughable at £110k

X6 - if price was right, i might have a look - i doubt the price will be right though

VW Tiguan - AllSpace - to say its virtually the Skoda Kodiaq the VW badge and options may get this added to the short list with a impressive 2400kg towing limit and 7 seats

Still to look at Audi and Volvo's offering and decide when the time is right to leave the brand Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Very Happy I thought the same, but seen a few nice ones about

Been looking online at a XC40 that does look nice and spec is great, compared to a DS or Ewok its cheaper too Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

I must confess to having a soft spot for the X6.

I’m currently waiting on my Velar to arrive, the D5 is nice but bigger than I need. Took one the dealer had coming, so got a good deal eventually. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

I've owned 8 Volvos over the years and would not hesitate to go back to them - that's where I will look when my FL2 days are over No Longer the owner of a 2013MY Fuji White GS

If you can hold off for the new Defender it ain’t too far away Nick. Hopefully it’ll be a good replacement for Freelander 2 owners...

unfortunately with JLR current price strategy and offering of economical cars i doubt it

not in any rush, but looking at option, don't need any off road functionality unless they build steep kerbs round my way Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

If you don’t need off road abilities, how about a spacious estate car? BMW 5 Series Touring? Audi A6 Avant? Both available with 4WD, notably the Audi Quattro system.

Plenty more options including Volvo but just a thought. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

been thinking of heading that way, but each time i sit in one i feel like i'm about to sit on the floor

I am considering a a Audi S4 Avant, like Paul as ever since Taz described his as time bending fast Laughing it's driven that desire to head back to a sporty car with would put a smile on the face when i open it up (on the private roads)

That or talk the wife into getting the weekend car Whistle Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

To be fair I think many other primarily RWD 4x4s would do the same thing - handbrake works on the rear wheels and without a 'proper' centre diff the transmission brake probably does too, leaving the front wheels free-wheeling. The comparison with the RR didn't look altogether fair either, as the RR seemed to be carrying quite a bit more momentum and was perhaps on a slightly less steep part of the slope. Remember that in Top Gear everything is staged.

That said, for me the X6 is one of the most pointless cars ever built - not good on road, not good off road, and not even any load space to speak of because of the sloping roof.

If I were thinking of spending X6 money I think I'd go for a D5 and just live with the looks, much though I hate them. But get a D5 in a dark grey and much of the dogs dinner which is the back end disappears into a slab of grey nothingness which is better than actually seeing all the styling disasters!

Have to admit the X6 is awful - if you thought rear visibility in a ewok was bad the X6 is hideous - worse than than a letterbox!

Don't understand these SUV Coupes - the X5 looks miles better than the X6 as does the X3 to the X4, mercedes GLC Coupe now coming out which looks vile compared to the regular GLC.

Regarding the X3 side bolsters - they are electrical adjustable and go almost flat, their range is quite large so if someone got in before you and had them on the maximum setting then you would have to be a stick insect to get comfy in he seat.
