United Kingdom 2014 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Orkney Grey

I do 10000 miles/year. So ~ 20000 -25000 miles per set of HB3 bulbs. Not too bad. However in my last Hyundai Tucson I never replace a bulb in 7 years of ownership

That feels like twice what I'm getting, maybe its a plan to get some LR genuine ones next time around then.

Completely agree about lasting 7 years on other cars though, I can't remember replacing any bulbs below 70k miles previously - on any car.

2014 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Manual Santorini Black

2 weeks after the first bulb went, the one on the other side packed in.

Going to buy a bulk pack and keep them and a spanner in the car.

Had 3 Discos and many other cars over my 30 odd years of driving...and these are the first headlight bubs I've ever had to replace.

Getting into the habit of checking them every day...as it's not that obvious when they go, being so dim in the first place.

After the first lot I just replace them in pairs now, when the first goes the other won't be far behind!

3 weeks now since one of mine went. Other cant be far behind . About 20000 miles from a pair with genuine LR ones. No idea who makes them for LR but they come in a nice box with bubble wrap round them 😄

Anyone here fitted LED headlight bulbs? I have a 2013 HSE SD4. Have only had it for just over a year and getting fed up with changing bulbs so I'm researching going LED. They're expensive, I know, but offer a much greater light output and longer life.

I did not find anyone who was successful with LED bulbs. Some people installed a HID kit and are happy with it, like here http://www.freel2.com/forum/post321825.html#321825. Others took the plunge and installed original xenon headlights.

Think you'll find a long list on here that people have had from various places with the same low success rate.

I just took a tip off here and use my front fogs Shocked If it wasn't so bad it'd be funny.

Hi guys

I have a 2014 Freelander Dynamic with 40k miles on the clock. I have been through 3 pairs of bulbs already, each time I have just had them replaced at the dealers. They said they have replaced one of the units and that hasn't helped. My car is now out of warranty and I have been quoted around £200 for a permanent fix, which was to replace some wiring or cables, I am not too sure of the exact terms as I am not very technical minded! - Is there such a fix??
Question
What bulbs are best for longevity as I am getting sick of driving over to the dealers constantly. Also do you know what bulbs I will need? I haven't a clue! Its the dipped beam which always goes

Thanks for your help
Tom

I'm just on my 3rd set after 45000 miles. Fitted genuine lr (which are (Philips) . Indy asked me whether I had had the 'fix' or something done when I went to buy the bulbs, as he guessed they were for fl2. I said they last about 20000 miles, so he suggested mine wasn't a problem one.

On the 2014 there is only one bulb (HB3) for dipped and full beam, the unit uses a shutter to change the pattern. There is no "dipped beam".

I replaced one on my 2014 at 26kmiles 3 yrs and this week at 34k and a year later the other side went. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto

So the dealer didnt offer the LR resistance wire fix (bodge*) before the warranty ran out - typical. Its been out for a while but I only found out about it recently too.

* it just reduces current (hence heat build up) to the bulbs ( they must therefore get dimmer too I suppose) - The design is very poor frankly and I presume undertake to save costs. Jules

Not a problem one !!! Thats still awful bulb longevity IMO

I upgraded quite early to Night breakers because the OEM were so dim compared to my other non-HID cars and then I discovered the heat build up problem - the Night breakers last about 10-15K miles Jules
