Its easy if you've got some basic technical ability. Ive done two of these now on both of my freelanders, just remember the colour coding for Land Rover is completely different to standard, & you'll be fine.

Yes doing one socket at a time, makes life simple, its just a bit fiddly getting the cables attached.

I only bought a single entry cable socket, & it worked very well, as the main harnesses aren't that big, then once into place, I used black insulating tape to bind them all together, & keep them water tight.

Allow yourself about an hour, if it takes you longer, then who cares!

Your by-pass relay kit should have come with fitting instructions. If not, contact the supplier or manufacturer. If all else fails try Googling for a generic by-pass writing diagram. Whatever you do, do not connect your 7-pin cable to that plug or it’s wiring without learning how the bypass relay couples up.

I have the instructions for the bypass relay and am fairly confident in my ability to wire it up correctly!!
I just need to know which of those wires in the picture goes to indicators,lights earth etc

I seem to remember there is a concern over power rating of the cables, I think the earths in the 13 pin cable are thicker to cater for modern fridge loads. That was one of the reasons for moving to the 13 pin socket system, 2 earths reduced loads on the return saved the old 7S sockets from burning up, then again, I have probably got it all round my neck again as usual......  MY2014 SD4 XS

Dee, refer to the wiring diagram sticky in the Technical section. Page 39 shows the rear lamp units and their respective feed wires with colours. You should couple up your by-pass relay to the various circuits there although I must say, it is not my most confident route. The car has CAN-BUS and weird things can happen in the wrong hands. We have had instances of owners changing front side lamps (for instance) and one circuit failing although it worked before! DC electrics or AC, I am happy with - CAN-BUS? magicians magic! I would use only a dedicated loom or an Auto Electrician to be safe.

I plan to wire it something like this, I don't like Scotchlok type connectors and this looks a bit neater
If it affects the Can bus and throws up any problems it would be easy to remove

Discofan, your task is simple, as the wiring (to the car) is already in place. Dee is trying to wire a bypass relay, which is different.

You need to replace the twin sockets with a 13 pin socket. The genuine LR twin socket cable has potted joints to the wires behind the sockets. They are nigh on impossible to disconnect cleanly. What I did was feed a 13 pin cable (about a metre) to the l/h boot side pocket and make The joins in there using chocolate block connectors. See my pics on previous page. Shows all colours and which with which.

Hi d-f. Agreed, solder joints are best. Having said that, my choc block joints have stayed secure and, don’t tell anyone, are no different to the screwed joints in all three fittings of your adapter! 🤫
