changing 2 front tyres advise needed please

hi I'm after a bit of advice I have recently bought my freelander 2 hse sd4, I'm looking to change the 2 front tyres for the new avon zx7, my question is can I run ok with different tyres on the front, as the tyres I have on the back are a grabber GT I believe its called on one side and a yokohama on the other side, the tread on the back tyres are good and do not need changing but had advisories for the front 2 tyres. so am I better to get 4 new tyres which are all the same (which I would rather not do just for the cost of it) or will I be ok to run the same tyres on the front 2 (avon zx7) and just 2 different types of tyres on the back? all wheels are the same size to 235/55/19. any advice would be greatly appreciated.

If you have different tyre brands on the rear axle you need to change them to match, ideally you should have the same make of tyre on each axle and tyre changes should be carried out as an axle pair as a minimum. If the front need changing I would be inclined to change all 4 four to match

Run all four same depth the same make and move front to back every 10,000 miles (same side). Otherwise expect to screw up the Haldex / transmission IMHO. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Firstly, new tyres should always go on the back wheels (Google for the reason - plenty of advice on that from tyre manufacturers and dealers). That leaves you with two odd tyres on the front. It probably won't hurt your transmission (FL2 is much more forgiving than FL1 in this respect) but could make for some interesting steering/braking anomalies.
If it were me I'd be buying four new tyres, putting one of the good ones in the boot as a spare, and selling the other here or on e-bay. This does presuppose having more than four wheels (!) but there are usually wheels for sale at good prices. Spare wheels with tyre usually sell, tyres on their own tend not to.
You could also check with Forum sponsor AJS I case they have a good offer - they sold me a very cheap set of DA (cosmetically imperfect) tyres for a very good price a few years ago. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone

Ok people thanks very much for the helpful tips, I think I'm going to have to bite the bullet and buy 4 New tyres instead of the 2. Mad
What's your opinions on the Avon ZX7 tyres? I've looked at the reviews and they don't seem half bad. I only use the motor on the roads around town and a bit of motorway driving so no off roading.
Buying 4 New tyres also gives me a bit of piece of mind to. Big Cry Big Cry
