Sunshine/temp setting off alarm

Interesting one this. Been having some problems with the alarm going off on my 2008 LR2. The beeping one not the full blown horn. Initially thought it was the battery backup sounder. It then it went away. Then it came back again after a period of months accompanied by the bonnet open message on the dash. Liberally sprayed bonnet catches with WD40 and it went away.

Now it appears to be happening when the sun hits the car. Parked on a driveway and about 2:30pm the sun creeps around the side of the house and almost without fail alarm goes off. If it's a cloudy day (this is Wales) and sun breaks out later in the day the alarm goes off. If I unlock and lock it stays off. If I unlock, open the door and get in it the car cools a little and an hour later it goes off again as temperatures increases.

Now I know. Take it t a garage but anyone else had problems with temperature changes setting off the alarm and can anything be done?

It happens on single and double locking as well.

I would be looking at two things, one is the bonnet catch sensor switch ( I had a problem with mine not closing properly a few years back and a friend had his changed under warranty). Second thing is that if it is so repeatable in your driveway what part of the car is getting the sunlight first? 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Sheep removed and currently undergoing security training with Dai the alarm.

Booked into garage tomorrow for them to plug in the laptop, suck their teeth and mutter about could be anything. Rolling Eyes

As to what part of the car gets the sunlight first. She's parked facing South, with the house to the east obscuring the sun until it starts to hit the drivers side. After an hour or so she's bathed in glorious Welsh sunshine (it's the best sunshine) and anytime after that is when the alarm goes off.

Typically that's around 2:30-15:00 although with the changing eclipse of the sun am anticipating the time will change accordingly. Cos you know we're constantly bathed in sunlight here Cool

Quite simple actually.
As its been mentioned before, remove plug from catch/sensor and using a paperclip, put one end of the uncurled paper clip in each end of the spades and close bonnet.
If you don't have any alarm triggers you have you answer.....replace bonnet catch sensor.
Otherwise you can pay LR to tell you you have an intermittent or permanent DTC of the bonnet trigger sensor. MY15

As you say it is in both single and double then it is a hard switch fault rather than a software fault, have you tried parking the opposite way round. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

Wales has now gone all Gateshead on me so continued experimentation with different parking position v sun are currently suspended.

The Sheep still being trained.

Nw bonnet sensor fitted and the garage did the teeth sucking, laptop plugging no effing idea mate, needs taking to a main dealer. (local garage used initially.)

Codes found and cleared

P1259
CAN-BUS/DATA LUNE BETWEEN ECU AND IMMOBILISER
AND Instrument cluster disturbed CAN fault Disturbed COMMUNICATION

U0415

CAN bus/data line between readout ECU and ABS/ESC Control Unit
IMPLAUSIBLE MESSAGE

U0415
Can bus/data line between ECU and ABS/ESC control unit
IMPLAUSIBLE MESSAGE

May as well have been displayed in Welsh

Only system error received has been bonnet open and she's driving a treat

Garage cleared codes, kept the car over night, took it out a few times and codes haven't returned.

So far alarm hasn't sounded so am hopeful this may be it and I'll just ignore the gibberish that came out of the laptop for now.

Codes

I've seen similar types of codes on mine when the reader was switched off before the engine fully shut down. Canbus can be odd at times, if the fault isnt there next time, it may not have been a genuine fault.
