United Kingdom 2014 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Auto Orkney Grey
Mitsubishi Shogun to Freelander 2.

I have owned a Pajero that I had imported from Japan (I loved that car) which I sold & still regret, I then bought a VW Golf GTi (diesel) wow that car was pretty quick but not very comfy for me as 6 ft tall so a cramped ride.

I went on to buy a Mitsubishi Shogun SWB 3.2 which was a big car with plenty of room. I owned it for a couple of years but was always a bit worried about the rust underneath & also that if the fuel pump went it could cost 2000 to get replaced.

I sold the Shogun & then started looking around for something that I would like to drive with 4 x 4 capability, to be honest there was nothing that really stood out & said buy me, I looked at the x trail but that just looked like an estate car & not very exciting at all.

A friend of mine has a Range Rover Discovery that looks very nice but too big for me plus I did not like the cost of the road tax.

Looking around I did see the Freelander 2 & decided to have a look at one, I looked at a 2007 SE that was local to me. It has everything, Electric sunroof/electric windows /electric heated seats/heated windscreen/ sat nav/Alpine audio system/ full Landrover history & I have to say after sitting in it I was smitten so I bought it, genuine 38,000 miles on the clock & the interior is beautiful & still smells new. Had it for 2 weeks now & I am very glad I bought it.

I know its early days but its the best drive I have had in recent years. For 10 years old its still a lovely car. Anyone out there that cannot make up their mind (like me) should give one a go.

Thought I would post & share my introduction to Landrover cars.

Back in the real world Very Happy

blueboy - glad your happy with your Freelander, I know how you feel after having mine some 7 months now I'm glad I joined the fold.
I would have loved a Land Rover Discovery but just didn't make sense for the added running costs and everything that goes with the bigger vehicle for me and I don't regret going for the Freelander 2 at all.
There was a time when maybe I used to think of the Freelander as second best but not anymore.

Not up on the models but guess its probably a Landrover Discovery (think its a 62 plate ). Its very nice but its big, far to big just for me & the wife & I like to put it in the garage as not really used during the week.

I have done some work for a local independent Landrover garage & when I told him that I was looking at some of the new models out of interest when I was waiting for a spare part in the local dealership he was telling me that some of the repair bills for the new models were eye watering & I certainly would not want that.

He tells me that Freelander 1 & Freelander 2 were the best 2 cars Landrover ever made, don't know enough about them to know his reasons for saying that.

Anyway smallmankey thanks for the positive reply & I agree that my Freelander is as good as any other Landrover model out there, it all looks good quality inside & out.

I moved on to the Discovery nearly two years ago but, it you don't want the Disco's space and size, then the FL2 is a cracking car and it sounds like you've found yourself a good one Thumbs Up

Usual forum rules must still apply though; if there are no photographs, then it didn't happen! Wink

Whatever happened to the Mitsubishi Shogun Sport that was supposed to come out about a year ago in the UK? Apparently based on the L200 pickup so pretty tough and capable off road. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto
Now Discovery Sport P250 MHEV SE

I hope that full LR history also included the 10 year service and done to the 10 year service spec. If not you may have a big unexpected bill coming. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

I just had the cam belt done as its 10 years old, cost me 390 so happy with that, Landrover serviced the car 1000 miles ago so does not need anything oil or filter wise for a while.

Air bag modules mmm they will not get changed, I don't know anyone that has done that on their older cars. I will look into the oil/service in the gearbox haldex unit etc.

Welcome

I have done some extended off road work with land rover staff and about 2 years ago I asked one of their senior managers which LR to choose for reliability, space, reasonable running costs and last me for 15 yrs plus.

He immediatly said without hesitation - get a Freelander and not the top spec, get a GS or SE or similar.

I have now had 1 FL1 and now on my seceond FL2 and I have never had a breakdown or a problem with any of them. My current one is a GS SD 190 BHP auto with 35k miles and this one will be kept for another 5yrs or so.

Today mine was in fields and on the motorway, tomorrow it will go shopping and carry 20 x 25kg bags of gravel.

They are awesome vehicles IMHO

I've owned 3, a 08MY TD4 GS, 11MY SD4 GS and 13MY TD4 XS. They were all a solid well made car and out of the 3 only had one trip to the dealers. Where as my D3, Evoque, 2 D4s, DS and now D5 have all required dealer attention but I do like my Discos though.

Enjoy it Thumbs Up 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200
