Hi. Had my 2010 freelander 1 year. Came from landrover with a 2year warranty thank christ 😂. Luckily most of the known issues happened and have been resolved. Really like the car though

New owner near Norwich

Just a quick note to say hi.
I am in the process of buying my first ever Land Rover, a 2009 LR2 HSE in silver, 58000 miles.
I put a deposit on it two weeks ago with a LR main dealer but it has a few things needing sorting before I get it.
Hopefully not long now.
My wife is very concerned it will be a huge money pit full of faults, so if anyone can offer advice on what to look out for, get checked etc before I take delivery, all advice greatly appreciated.
It comes with a three year Inchcape Signature warranty, but I don't know if that's worth having or not.
Only time will tell I guess.
I'm really looking forward to getting it though.
Great forum by the way, thanks for the add. Thumbs Up

That's very worrying. The warranty they offer is not the full "approved used" one, it's a lesser version.
It looks good on paper covering all electrical & mechanical, but with the clause excluding weare & tear, which could apply to any component on an older car I would have thought.
£4K, heck, what went wrong?

wear and tear exclusion is normal on any warranty but its a bit of grey area on some components

£4000... is that all ??? Laughing

Delboy hi and welcome from me.

Its 8 years old and at 10 years it need a extra large service with associated large costs. That service will cost over £2,000 at a LR dealers. I would be negotiating a full cam belt service to include new water pump to be part of the deal as your warranty will require you to have that changed to keep your third year of warranty as its on the service sheet at 10 years . Search for the service sheet thats on this site. The Haldex filters will never have been changed (one cleaned one changed and fresh oil) and I for one see that as an issue at 8 years.

As for general points on purchase many ask similar questions and if you find the search button you will get plenty of info coming up. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

As its a LR dealership ask for the 2 year approved warranty then. That should be OK as you have given away a year. Cool FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Thanks Yorky. They have refused an approved used warranty due to vehicle age.
I'm sure they won't consider a free service, cambelt and water pump, but no harm in asking.
I'm having second thoughts now. No way I could afford a £2K service, even in two years.

Outside any warranty you can pick off the big service extras slowly and at your leisure but you miss a service item inside a warranty period, claim and they won't pay. You do need to ask about servicing costs while its under any warranty.

As for its too old that a load of carp I think you may find See below: Moto being never trust a used car dealer and if they can't fully explain why it can't be done start wondering and possibly walking.

Land Rover approved warranty will only cover vehicles up to 6 years old/100k miles at time of purchase. This warranty is (I believe) as good as the 3 year new vehicle warranty.

The extended warranty can be purchased to continue at the end of either new or approved warranty for vehicles up to 10 year old/100k but is a watered down version that excludes more age related items than the others.

Thanks everyone.
Panic over for now. I've found a local independent specialist with good reviews who tell me they can do the ten year service all inclusive for just under £900.
I can live with that but not £2K.
Test drive this arvo, fingers crossed.
