I wondered why my auto SD4 won't go up a local hill in 6th whereas my previous TD4 manual would just do it and it's down to the gearing. The auto box is 37.8mph/1000 whereas the manual is 35.3. There is about 1/2 a gear difference (if you know what I mean). SD4 is much more leisurely on motorways as a result.

Lots of info and nice to do comparisons between vehicles, power and torque graphs and many other things.

All you've done is multipled by 4, not taking into account rolling resistance, wind resistance, etc. |

The figure the factory use is normally an average on sausage test track (wind direction cancelled out), this can be improved upon, wind and tide behind ( though a broad reach may be better) a bit of mapping may also improve the top speed, spend a lot of money and you may well achieve 151 mph or more, any warranty excluded ![]() 2012 HSE SD4 In Orkney Grey now gone, best car ever. |

yeh my SD4 Auto (and my old TD4 Auto) sits about 1800rpm at 70rpm, but in both it feels a little rough at that speed/rpm like the 6th gear is struggling.

The claimed top speed for the SD4 is 130mph. Mine was able to do this when new - at least according to the speedo. It was a bit scary though. The higher top gear ratio enables this - wouldn't work with the TD4 as not enough power.

Travelling on our endless flat straight roads at about 100 km/h with a slight tailwind the car would use about a litre less per 100 km as compared to a slight headwind. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

I once had a Ford Galaxy as a company car and often had to drive up most of the M3 which runs roughly SW. The prevailing wind is often SW in the UK and there was usually a noticeable difference in mpg when coming home in the evening. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
