HI all, just been and bought a HSE very nice to be back BUT...on the windscreen was one price and dealership said 'oh we'll cut that down etc etc etc BUT when I got back home and looked to see if car had been removed or said sold and noticed it was a few grand lower priced than what they had on forecourt so really haven't knocked off even though I was a cash buyer.

Many thanks, thats how I'm going to take it tomorrow. If it wasn't so bad it'd be funny.

Just need to be patient, plenty more will come along. In the meantime you can save some more funds! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

you shouldn't lose your deposit and you should get it at the lower price, take a screenshot or print out of the online ad in with you.

This practice may be common. The car we just bought had a sticker price just over 900 on the internet price.

How much more than the web price did you end up paying? Being a cash buyer these days doesn`t give you a lot of bargaining power as most places want you to take some sort of finance deal and buying cash can result in you actually paying more for a car than you could get it for if you had taken finance. |

It's an interesting game is selling used cars (or new ones for that matter) for a living. I wonder if the sellers actually have bought the cars themselves |

Unless you buy a car unseen under the " distance selling legislation " , you do not have a ( cash purchse ) " cooling off " period. If you are buying cash after viewing , a deposit is just that a prepayment on an agreed contract . The price on anything is still I believe ( and I'm sure the Doc will correct me if I'm wrong ) , nothing other than " an invitation to treat " . It does not oblige the seller to sell at the advertised price . As there has been "offer and acceptance " between you and the garage the contract is probably binding. Bumping up forecourt prices is common so that they can offer " great " trade in prices.

I could have got another Freelander close to home for the same price with a pile of extras. But I wanted white & light coloured seats that don't burn your arse. This was the only other petrol engine one I could find 300 km away, before they all disappeared. One could say I paid too much but I got the key things I wanted. Still very happy! Quite right there RogB, thought about it and if I hadn't looked that night I would still be well happy at getting the car I wanted , left the dealership thinking I done well here so.............................. onward and upward If it wasn't so bad it'd be funny. 🐑 Freelander 2 HSE auto 2014 ( Florrie ) ..... Try again. Freelander 2 GS 2012...... Gone. |
