Dunno about the demise of diesel, but perhaps the demise of driving skills and common sense in the name of technology for technology's sake.

I'm rather sceptical about the future of the autonomous car and can't help but think it's all a bad idea...
So much to go wrong with a computer controlling a speeding chunk of metal through the "real world".
And what happens when it DOES go wrong? and it WILL...

Who do we blame when somebody gets hurt?
What happens when something goes wrong?
Does it carry on rolling out of control or slam on the brakes?
How can we expect drivers to concentrate behind the wheel if they've just spent three hours being driven autonomously on a motorway and come to a slip road that leads to a busy junction?
Not to mention how long the software/hardware will last and how much it will cost to replace if it goes wrong...  "We're in danger, we've got to get out."

A hybrid Porsche (919 iirc) won the Le Mans 24 hr by miles last weekend. 2litre turbo V4 with 4WD electric motors - about 900BHP.

What about Adblue?
Can a diesel car run cleaner without having to need to add Adblue?
Is Adblue just another way of taxing the diesel car owner even more?

Now, I don't mind the idea of electrically-driven cars, but once these become the norm, no doubt the authorities will start to impose more charges on these too.

I think it will change pretty quickly. We are in the process of putting electricity into the garages in our block of units. Since we have 3 phase in the building we will put 415 volts in the garages which give us the option of 240 volts on 3 circuits if needed. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!
