Not seen any other start stops, but my immpression it wouldn't be quick on the take off, by the time it had started the lights might have changed Confused

I think that would take a lot of getting used to.
Also how much 'fun' is that going to be in seriously heavy stop start traffic?

I agree
It doesn't look fun to drive. Pull up, take out of gear, put back in gear, wait for engine to crank. Take back out of gear because the lights have gone back to red. Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Does it come with earplugs? Definition nanosecond - the time it takes the car behind to sound his horn from the light going green to you not moving.

Are they going to do an auto version?

If not I think they are somewhat shortsighted, as a significant % of sales are auto's in this type of vehicle. In fact I would have probably chosen an alternative but most of the Jap small 4x4's don't do an auto, or one that can tow a reasonable capacity.

If they are doing an auto how will that know to stop/start Question

Sounds alright to me, I just wonder how often the starter-motor will need replacing, or whether it will just become a service replaced wear and tear part in this model Confused

.......why don't we just switch the engine off & back on again, using the stop/start button. ?

Isn't that quicker than using that sequence brake, gear lever..........?

Wonder what this would do to the battery life ?

PS - the reason the engine sounds rough/noisy it that they are not adding 2T oil Thumbs Up

This new stop start system sounds like a lot a cods-wollop to me Yawn - fortunatly it wil be possible to turn the system off you want too. So if I ever own a FL2 with this system, mine will be permantly turned off Thumbs Up .
It will take a lot more than stopping and starting to save our enviroment. Rolling Eyes 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.

I wouldn't find this a problem at all.

Would expect that starter and battery specification would be somewhat different in this version if it is to be a realistic long term reliable car.

As for the driver in the demo using 2000 rpm to set off on level road, that's totally unecssary, wasteful of fuel and not at all kind to the clutch. He needs some coaching on basic car sympathy!! Stornoway Grey GS ... What a fine motor Smile ... but not any more ... Big Cry ... psst look at my gallery!

So in other words it's an expensive addition to the car to allow it's official CO2 output to drop, making it look more environmentally friendly, for tax and marketing purposes Wink

So how long to the hybrid one with an electric motor driving the rear wheels instead of a centre diff?

I agree - all this extra engineering & software, achieves absolutely nothing more than using the existing start/stop button - or have I missed something ?

It must be a joke......... Rolling with laughter

What a waste of time.

If it's user selectable, who is going to use it with all the hastle it would cause and the extra wear on the engine from stopping and starting like that.

And doesn't an engine produce more pollution when you keep restarting it rather than leaving it running Question I for one don't believe the BS claims they make, come to think of it I don't believe in global warming anyway.....it's a natural occurrence of the planets life cycle to heat up and cool down.

Sorry Embarassed rant over.

I tried the mini (BMW) version of the system and thought it worked really well.. But then it took about a third of the time to start the engine as the FL2 system seems to. My only thought is that maybe the massive starter motor they put in it will let you cheat and pull away a wee bit while it's still turning over. Either that or it'll just stall and you'll wish you never paid the extra. 09MY FL2 Td4 XS, Style Pack, Privacy Glass, Martinique Blue.. oh so very blue..

I'm not sure what you lot are going on about, it looks okay to me. I've tried the Mini system and its very similar. The engine starts and stops on the clutch motion, if the gear is in neutral (can't remember if foot needs to be on brake). Also its always 'on' rather than an option. I'm sure the whole waggling the gear stick was just to exaggerate the point. Phil
