Thanks for that Mikey. I am working on generalizations of other belts doing damage and sods law if it was off while doing the cam belt and its done 10 years it will shaft something on refitting.

Agreed it's a no brainer to replace the aux belt while you're in there, but I don't think it could damage the cam belt.

For anybody interested I have now done my cambelt, waterpump & coolant change. The job is straightforward enough, the biggest issue for me being general access, but I suppose that's the case with most modern cars & the FL2 is better than many. Waterpump pliers dealt with the big hose clips on the air-ducting & I found removing the starter was easy enough. I used the LR procedures as my guides with extra detail from other sources. All the guides I found (including the Gates instructions that came with the belt kit) seem to miss out one important detail or another, so it's best to go through everything you can find in advance & integrate it all. The belt is tensioned in 2 stages; first a pre-tensioning stage, then the final tensioning. And don't use the new pulley bolt until the final tightening operation.

It had 27k when I bought it in 2013, now on 45ish. But the sump hasn't been touched during my ownership so it would have happened pre 27k. 1978 Laverda Jota. Stolen...

I done mines last year the job itself was a hand out. Just have to be careful removing the crank sensor reluctor ring as it easy damaged. Finding the flywheel locking pin got my head scratching for a minute as well. |

agreed. I used the 2x M6 bolts you push it off with as handles to take it off & refit it with. You can't drop it then.

I am presuming that you have done the belts again since your post, by 7yr date or 112,000 miles, i found out today after a couple of months investigation that the timing belt on MY14 was done in June 2021 by landrover whom only changed the belt quoted that the water pump was checked and all was well, and if so they only change the belt, the Auxiliary belt was done February 2023 Why not change it at the same time. Therefore come spring i will be changing the water pump, timing belt, Auxiliary belt, tensioner, & idle pulley with the gates kit i purchased just for this occasion. 1 2 3 4 5 The water pump has a drain screw hopefully the one on the FL does as well. 6 |

IIRC There was a case on here where the auxiliary belt failed and jammed in the cam belt causing it also to fail. Jules |

There was, but I believe that someone had also left a belt guard off which didn’t help. |

Don't worry if it doesn't. The coolant will come out when you unbolt the pump. Make sure that drain is tightened properly before you fit it, there were reports of some being loose and leaking after fitting.
