Stumbled upon this thread at the right time as I'm wondering about doing some to servicing to my 2012 LR2. Though the car is 12 years old, it has just hit 32,000 miles.

@Arctic, he drives an i6, so none of the belt stuff applies! (Now Sold). 2008 Freelander 2 (Nazca Sand) SE TD4 Auto. Statutory write off & on WOVR for hail damage but still road legal.

I had the belt changed a couple of years ago on my 14 plate FL2 XS SD4 at 7 years as recommended by my LR dealer. When it came back the bill was less than I expected as they hadn't done the water pump since "LR say that it's not necessary at this mileage". Seems an odd policy to turn away business when everyone knows its a good idea to change it, and so easy to do when you are in there. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Land Rover are good at saying that things are not necessary at this mileage and then washing their hands of them. Thinking all those drive train items that are sealed for life without even a drain plug! Life is longer if you change the lubricants. Who is going to have to foot the bill for having to do the water pump change if it fails. The water pump itself isn’t expensive, the labour to change it IS! |
