The feature was enabled by modifying the firmware (the EXE part) and not some configuration data.

The VBF files are just a container for some block(s) of data that need to be programmed inside the ECU. You have to extract from the VBF file those data blocks and save them in a format (usually BIN) that could be loaded into a debugger/disassembler. The VBF file consists of 2 main sections: header section and data section. The header section is text and contains an important item, the CRC32 of the data section. The data section contains one or more blocks of data in the following format: start address, block's length, block's binary data, CRC16 of the block's binary data.
Not quite... You have to know pretty well all microcontroller cores' microcode in order to know, just by looking at the firmware (microcode), which processor type is that. |
