You can't have very successful scrappies and drug dealers down your end of the world if they drive X5s , the Range Rover in all persuasions is the "de rigeur" set of wheels up here for every successful wrong'un, so much so that there is a bit of a stigma attached to them if you are honest can't say what porn stars drive up here as I'm not overly familiar with that genre, and it's probably a bit too cold on the moors to earn your living by getting your kit off!


With respect to JLR designating the the Discovery name, I'm pretty sure they have done their marketing, originally selling a "Range Rover Sport" and "Range Rover Ewok " in addition to the full fat versions certainly did them no harm, and the name of the game is to shift units . It's no different to BMW and Audi using MSport and S Line to add a bit of cachet from their top cars to the plain Vanilla models . As said, I will never bad mouth the Freelander 2 as they have given perfect service over nearly 10 years for me, but the DS is in another league. But 10 years down the line of the Freelander launch, it should be!

RRS vs sport the differences are plain to see, but so are the running costs tax etc etc

I took the chance to own a V6 diesel barge before the govt killed them off with road and fuel taxes. so been there got the T shirt no regrets, but time to face facts Im not wealthy enough/ too tight to own and run a barge whilst taking my kids on decent holidays etc.
The size of the RRS did come in handy when the urchins were in pushchairs and slept in travel cots, less useful now.

Disco sport should be all the car we need, if all goes well with it.

I would have liked one of the last of the line RRS 3.0 TDV6 Autobiography's, but th running costs would have been sky high compared to the DS. It would have also been several years older for the budget I had.

Not a chance in hell CG I love the Outback. If I'd wanted a DS I'd have bought one just didn't suit my needs .
I had BMW and Audi estates for years which suited me and my lifestyle. The Subaru has a boot as big as an A6 , rear legroom you could only dream about in a DS or Freelander , 200mm ground clearance and will do anything Off road I want to do to the point that I want to risk thirty odd grand of my own money. It is a brilliant thing to drive and will corner like it is on rails The modest 150 hp Diesel engine doesn't bother me it's more than enough, and the class leading driver aids package makes it very cheap to insure £ 230 a year fully comp, 20k miles a year.

after nearly a year of owning it , I'm well sold on the AWD estate car concept. So this one came with a 5 year warranty and I'll keep it until then when I will be 65 and approaching a "Senior Crisis" . One possibility to get through that will be the thought that I'll buy another Outback outright as a daily drive and order a 5.0 Mustang for delivery in the September when my state pension would pay for the lease......

I was referring to the 3 pot diesel MHEV

I have done nearly 1000 miles in the DS since I have owned it, and the mpg is an interesting subject lol!

No I haven't achieved the official 50+mpg combined, but it has proven to be noticeably better than the Freelander.

On a 50 mile run the other weekend, cursing at around 65mph, it was averaging 51/52mpg, and around town about 33/34 and combined seems to be settling around the 38/40mpg.
