United Kingdom 2009 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Auto Zermatt Silver

You can't have very successful scrappies and drug dealers down your end of the world if they drive X5s Laughing , the Range Rover in all persuasions is the "de rigeur" set of wheels up here for every successful wrong'un, so much so that there is a bit of a stigma attached to them if you are honest Rolling with laughter can't say what porn stars drive up here as I'm not overly familiar with that genre, and it's probably a bit too cold on the moors to earn your living by getting your kit off!

With respect to JLR designating the the Discovery name, I'm pretty sure they have done their marketing, originally selling a "Range Rover Sport" and "Range Rover Ewok " in addition to the full fat versions certainly did them no harm, and the name of the game is to shift units . It's no different to BMW and Audi using MSport and S Line to add a bit of cachet from their top cars to the plain Vanilla models . The Freelander name wasn't marketed in the USA, and I think if you asked the man in the street worldwide who made Shogun, Landcruiser , Defender, Discovery, and Freelander, most would get 4 out of 5 because those are long standing iconic 4x4 names. 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

Mav,
Did you manage to spec it with a spare wheel ? , mine was already built so didn't have that option , after 2 punctures I have just bought a space saver to keep in the boot (arrived this morning) .

We have done 6500 mls in ours with no issues and had 2 trips to Devon/Cornwall with 4 up and luggage and space was fine , however the lack of a dedicated spare wheel location would be an issue if we repeated that trip with luggage for 4 .

I didn't unfortunately, as mine was 8 months old. But I have just bought a full size 20" wheel the same as on the car. I won't keep it in the car, as it never goes very far, and the Mrs can always call me if there is a puncture.

I got the full size wheel for when we go on holiday with the caravan. Don't want to be left in the lurch in the middle of France with no spare!

I think the problem I had was, coming from a Full Fat Disco and judging it by they standards, whereas it may have been different if I had come from the Fl2.

Thats a very fair and valid point! I can't judge it against the full fat Disco as I have never owned one. But I can appreciate someone being underwhelmed if they are used to a D4 etc. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. We have just come back from a few days away in the DS and I am totally smitten with the car now in every way.

I can't fault any of it. Now I have found my optimum driving position it is just sublime. Got the chance to try out a few more of the toys too.

The self parking function is weird, but extremely good, lane assist is good and the infotainment system is much quicker to reposed to the Freelander.

Done about 240 miles and averaged 43.5mpg.

Now interestingly, I have just driven my friends 2013 HSE Freelander 2, and even after just 12 days with the DS, the Freelander feels extremely dated, but still a very nice drive as they always have been.

As said, I will never bad mouth the Freelander 2 as they have given perfect service over nearly 10 years for me, but the DS is in another league. But 10 years down the line of the Freelander launch, it should be!

But back to my original statement, if my circumstances change and I had to down grade the car, would I get another Freelander 2? ......of course, without question. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. RRS vs sport the differences are plain to see, but so are the running costs tax etc etc
horses for course

I took the chance to own a V6 diesel barge before the govt killed them off with road and fuel taxes. so been there got the T shirt no regrets, but time to face facts Im not wealthy enough/ too tight to own and run a barge whilst taking my kids on decent holidays etc.
The size of the RRS did come in handy when the urchins were in pushchairs and slept in travel cots, less useful now.

Disco sport should be all the car we need, if all goes well with it.

With the new car we will never relive the moment when I loaded all the balls from a kids ballpool into boot through the split tailgate top section, only for Mrs G to open the whole boot releasing all the balls down a decently sloped street full of parked cars Rolling Eyes
Would have been funny but for various reasons the visit was highly emotionally charged and we needed to get way from that house asap.
20 minutes crawling about on hands and knees under parked car collecting the bleeding balls and we were on our way Rolling Eyes At work

That's funny CG! Did you get the all?

I would have liked one of the last of the line RRS 3.0 TDV6 Autobiography's, but th running costs would have been sky high compared to the DS. It would have also been several years older for the budget I had.

But I hope you enjoy your DS CH! Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........

I've just looked at the specification. They deserve to sell a few of these not exactly bargain basement, but sensibly priced and has everything you need if you are honest, unless of course you prefer an auto. 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

Think of the Pure as the DS version of the Freelander 'Black and White' edition.

Not sure how long it will be around for. I was going to say that they need a model around the £24k/£25k mark. But this will be cordillera with the forth coming baby Discovery. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. It's not about price for me as far as DS is concerned - it's about lack of a phev version and quality control Sad

I'm reading good things about the Volvo XC90 T8 phev which may be my next vehicle or the Jag i-pace Cool

The DS is to get a MHEV with a 3 cylinder diesel ICE but I won't be interested because I can see problems with dpf and unrefined engine Rolling Eyes

There is going to be a phev RRS but as the current hybrid is £80k+ expect it will be more expensive still so it is about price in this case - I could buy 3-4 Mitsubishi phev for the price and by time it's launched with an EV range in 20s the Mitsubishi will be capable of 75 Mr. Green

Not a chance in hell CG Rolling with laughter I love the Outback. If I'd wanted a DS I'd have bought one just didn't suit my needs .
I had BMW and Audi estates for years which suited me and my lifestyle. The Subaru has a boot as big as an A6 , rear legroom you could only dream about in a DS or Freelander , 200mm ground clearance and will do anything Off road I want to do to the point that I want to risk thirty odd grand of my own money. It is a brilliant thing to drive and will corner like it is on rails The modest 150 hp Diesel engine doesn't bother me it's more than enough, and the class leading driver aids package makes it very cheap to insure £ 230 a year fully comp, 20k miles a year.

after nearly a year of owning it , I'm well sold on the AWD estate car concept. So this one came with a 5 year warranty and I'll keep it until then when I will be 65 and approaching a "Senior Crisis" . One possibility to get through that will be the thought that I'll buy another Outback outright as a daily drive and order a 5.0 Mustang for delivery in the September when my state pension would pay for the lease......

I expect the Freelander will still be here as well because for some strange reason my wife doesn't want to change it, but one day I'll get her to look at a nice used Macan . 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

Unrefined engine? Which one? The 2.0 Ingenium engine is in another league from the 2.2 in terms of refinement. I also can't complain about the build quality of the DS.

My brother has a Mitsubishi Phev, and although you can't argue about the taxation as a company car, it's a shockingly plasticy price of Japanese crap, that makes the Freelander feel line it goes round corners on rails. Horrible car. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........

I was referring to the 3 pot diesel MHEV

I thought the 2.0 ingenium was pretty good but disappointed it didn't get anywhere nr the claimed 53 mpg and mine was full of faults - the Mitsubishi hasn't been so far but agree the interior isn't as nice as the DS - it's on a par with 07 and 09 FL2s I owned previously though Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Ah OK.

I have done nearly 1000 miles in the DS since I have owned it, and the mpg is an interesting subject lol!

No I haven't achieved the official 50+mpg combined, but it has proven to be noticeably better than the Freelander.

On a 50 mile run the other weekend, cursing at around 65mph, it was averaging 51/52mpg, and around town about 33/34 and combined seems to be settling around the 38/40mpg. A good 10-14 lower than official figured but better than the last car. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather.
