I keep the locking wheel nut key in there Common sense isn't very common.

SWMBO keeps a nail file in that tray thing. Ive not found a use for it - tried putting the fob there but it ends up on the floor completely out of reach.

Digressing slightly, I wish there was somewhere to put my fob. Our previous LR2s had a fob which slotted into a hole. Now it gets lost regularly as there is no "special" place for it. Arguments then arise about who had it last Laughing

Bring back the hole for the fob (or maybe a little hook to hang it on)! - life is stressful enough Sad Jules

Put it in the little tray to the right of the steering wheel - fits perfectly, provided you don't have a key ring or anything else attached to it.

Why would you want to keep the fob in the car? Are you trying to get it stolen? Shocked MY13 Santorini Black SD4 HSE

i think Danny means its somewhere to put the fob when you are driving and can find it easily when you get out of the car. Jules

I'm thinking that tray - if ever removed - would be a good location to add in some aftermarket switches/buttons if someone were to wire in some additional lights or add-ons to the vehicle. Just a convenient location for it...

Surely when you're driving the fob is in the ignition slot? Are post 2010 models different? MY13 Santorini Black SD4 HSE

2012 models onwards with the revised interior were keyless ignition, just need to have the fob in the car

There is a company out there, mentioned in the forum a few times with pics, that do a complete nav/camera etc set up that replaces the rubber bobble mat with a button pad. Really neat modification that looks factory.

I lost so many coins, pens, and other little bits trying to work out what the little bobbly tray is for initially, I used to curse the stupidity of the designer for such a useless storage shelf................ then I found out its true purpose as a hand rest Laughing

I just assumed that's what the little tray is meant for - being close to the steering column, which is where the transponder is located.

This aftermarket sat nav system uses it for buttons.

I have been driving this car for the last week and simply love it, but was wondering what on earth could one put in the litlle tray under the Navigation system, tried putting some change and unless each coin is evenly placed on the rubber thingy they fall off so was just wondering what I could use this space for, so thought Id ask around and see what other people are using it for Thumbs Up

Our 2014 SE Tech does not have a tray immediately below the display only a tray in front of the gear lever. Jules
