Joining this thread...

'08 Canadian Freely here... Noticed today that the paint had been chipped off at both edges of my tailgate.

landmaciej, would you happen to have pictures of where exactly you put the rubber piece? Has anyone else found any permanent fix to this issue? (3M, rubber, etc.).

I doubt the dealership will agree to fix it under warranty, but if I get turned down at the dealer I will try and contact Land Rover customer relations. I might be out of the 6-year window for corrosion, but this is t is obviously an issued shared by other owners.

Cheers

Rear boot handle paint wear on edges

I have noticed the paint wearing away on the outside edges of the boot handle against the tail gate. I spoke to my local dealer who states this is wear and tear and won't do anything. This looks like a design issue when the handle flexes during driving and rubs the paint away. Is this something that Land Rover would authorise a repair to rectify

Thanks
Simon

It's a known issue.
Mine was just in bodyshop authorised by dealer for a tailgate respray due to another issue, and when I went to collect, the guy showed me the plastic film they had put between the tailgate handle and the tailgate as he said they can chip the paint as they flex and as it was a known issue they had done it as a preventative measure.
It's a known issue, go back to the dealers and ask them to put it in writing that it's wear and tear. If they won't tell them you are contacting LR customer service directly. Thumbs Up

I got around to snapping pictures of mine and should be going by my LR dealer next week. We'll see what they say, I'll bring it up to LR customer relations if they tell me they won't do anything.

To be fair, I doubt the dealer will do anything, as it's not technically their fault. I just hope they figure out that it's a manufacturing issue on their own / in conjunction with LR customer relations rather than me having to go through the hassle.

In the meantime, I've applied a bunch of rustproofing spray to the section in the hope that rust doesn't appear or spread underneath there.

Boot Handle Gasket/Spacer

Hi Dan

My 2011 has the problem of the boot handle rubbing paint from the tailgate.

http://www.freel2.com/forum/topic20119.html

Is there a modified gasket or spacer kit for the handle?
If so how much please?

Thanks

Richard.

Sorry to be an interloper but if Dan cannot offer anything I moded mine just using some double sided tape/filler strip from the local motor factors. You have to look really hard to see it and it fills the gap at each end stopping it rub. Thumbs Up

You could ask about the 6 year anti corrosion warranty at your local dealer Whistle FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Talked to the dealer about the tailgate paint issue today, as I picked up some wheel arch rubber trims to replace mine. As expected, the dealer doesn't want anything to do with it, so I will contact Land Rover.

Paint chipping on rear tailgate

This message regards paint chipping on the rear tailgate of my '08 LR2.

I recently noticed that some paint was chipping on my tailgate, next to the plastic hatch release cover. I believe this to be a manufacturing defect, as the issue appears to be due to one part of the vehicle (the plastic hatch release cover) rubbing against the tailgate paint. Seemingly, other owners have experienced a similar issue, as can be seen in this thread on the forum: https://www.freel2.com/forum/topic20119-105.html.

I realize that my vehicle is past the "rust and perforation" warranty; however, I take great care of the vehicle, as shown by the fact my LR2 has no rust or paint chipping on any other area of the body panels, including areas susceptible to this such as the wheel arches and lower areas of the doors and bumpers. My LR2 has been dealer serviced since new. As such, this issue is very much inconsistent with the general condition of the vehicle.

As I take great pride in the vehicle (as demonstrated by my Instagram page, @the_canadian_freelander) and plan on keeping it a long time, this issue is most unwelcome. In light of all this, I was wondering what type of contribution I could expect from Land Rover on this issue.

Pictures provided below.

Best,

Simon

Thanks Dan. That would explain why the problem reoccurs after people have had it 'fixed'!

I shall follow your advice Bob and get busy with the double sided tape.

Thanks Both.

Thanks for merging the threads, Taztastic.

However, I think my last message was intended for LR customer relations... Will it still show up on that thread?

Cheers

They haven't been seen for a while, you can try a PM to them, bear in mind that they are LR customer relations here in the U.K. and may well refer you to your local representative?
Given the age of the car it's also a long shot., especially as it's out of warranty.
