Paint on tailgate issue - ALL HERE

I have a 60 reg MY11 facelift FL2 and noticed there is a line of chipped paint on both sides of the tailgate where the plastic handle meets the metalwork. I have seen threads such as this http://www.freel2.com/forum/topic12166.htm...+corrosion

There is no rust but it is down to bare metal do what I would like to know is 1) will it rust over time and 2) should I touch up what I can see with some form of repair kit?

First port of call is the dealer but assuming they say it hasn't rusted yet so corrosion warranty cant be used I would like to do what I can to protect the car.

Thanks

That's not cool. Am seeing dealer tomorrow to get wing mirror lubricated (noisy) so will mention it. Fully expect to be brushed off but you never know.

I have the same issue I think - see my gallery for photo.. Took it to the dealers yesterday who took pictures to send to JLR for warranty claim. I await their response but if it's negative I will NOT accept it without a fight....this is just nonsense that a car just over 3 years old suffers rust like this.

So has yours actually rusted, or just suffering paint damage/metal exposure? May make all the difference.

You can clearly see the rust on the photo - it's small at the moment but we all know what happens with rust!

Been to dealer. Body work manager not in until later today bit service desk seemed aware of issue and will check to see if it is a warranty job. At least it wasn't a flat out no. Will update when they call back n

Out of interest I note you are in Stirling.. Are Morrisons your dealer or Pentland like me?

Morrisons. Didn't know there was a Pentland.

Pentland have a brand new, expensive and plush place a Newbridge roundabout beside all the other marques.
It's much better than their old place but is the service better? Well, wait until I see what the response to my warranty claim is!

Will be interesting to see if one says yes and the other no. No one called today so I will call tomorrow.

Yes it's going to be very interesting for me...the paint shop manager took lots of photos and measured paint depths then had the cheek to ask me if it had been in an accident, which it most definitely hadn't. The paint on one part of the tailgate was considerably thicker then the rest. This can only mean one of two things.
1. The paint job at the factory was uneven
2. The car was damaged after it arrived at the dealers before I took delivery and nobody told me.

Either way I am prepared for a battle if they say no even if it means going into their posh new showroom and creating merry hell! But maybe I am misjudging them and it will all be fine.....I am sure it will be.

Heard back from Morrisons Stirling. Body shop manager says it is a known fault which will rust and needs fixed. Should be a warranty claim. Even went as far as to describe how it happens (handle rubs and knocks the paint).

Sadly my nearest authorised body shop is in Glasgow which is a pain but I have contacted them and emailed photos.

I have also emailed the dealer who I bought the car from as if this is a known issue I shouldn't have been sold an authorised vehicle with a known issue.
