I think you will find that Ford started using the D pillar spoilers some time back as the hatchback styled cars started to have problems with rear aerodymamic lift and subsequent instabilty. The FL2 has many Ford designed features.

Best car I had for rear screen aerodynamics was the old Saab 900 - huge sloping back window, but the aerodynamics were so good it didn’t need a rear wiper. Basically, if the car was moving, the rain just didn’t land on the back window. 2005 D3 2.7 Auto

Ian, yes I remember the Sierra, had one as a company car. It did have two slivers on plastic 'wing' either side of the huge rear screen.

As for the FL2 'D' pillar trims ....I'm sure it was a design cue from the RR P38 ...... of which the FL2 is a 'shrunken' design.

101 things you (possibly) didn't know about your Freelander2. This list is an accumulation of articles and facts MAK of the LROCV Forums has found on the net and facts he found out by himself by owning one. Therefore I cannot verify the accuracy of some of these facts.

1. Lowered centre bonnet profile reduces reflection glare
