Presume there's no tyre fitted - just below the black valve cap down the stem you will see a nut which accepts a 12mm spanner undo it and the sensors off

Can the pressure monitors be "activated" on the car? Had a couple of slow punctures recently but no warning, the tyre bloke said that the dash should have told me as he saw the monitors in the tyres.

They are maybe good from a safety aspect, but the valves corrode into them after a while and they break off the next time it comes to getting a tyre fitted

I had a puncture caused by a screw through the thread which the TPMS detected. So I removed the wheel and fitted my spare when I got home.

The damage was in the centre of the tyre so I took it to a local fitter for a plug repair as the tyre had only done 21k miles.
The fitter managed to break the monitor off from its mounting on the tyre stem.

The potential stress, aggravation and amount of time to be wasted by claiming against their insurance, going to the main dealer for the parts and (I assumed) getting the sensor paired was just too much for me. So I decided to repair the sensor.
I took it home and Araldited it and put some cable ties on to hold it whilst baking it in the oven at 75C for an hour.
[My logic being that if the repair fails, the sensor fill fail and I will get a false tyre pressure alert. Since Landrover can't guarantee that a sensor will never break off inside a tyre, I don't think that having a broken off sensor inside an inflated tyre could be a bid safety issue.]

Sensors have a battery in them.
Sensors are triggered to transmit when the "actuators" in each wheel arch send out a signal that triggers the sensor to broadcast it's data. The actuators are wired into the CJB.
The sensors themselves will also "wake up" if pressure drops below 25% of target pressure or "rapid deflation"'is detected.
The spare tyre in the Freelander 2 is monitored as long as you have a "full size spare" otherwise it is de-activated within the CCF.

That's very helpful thanks. If I have to replace the repaired sensor, will it need to be paired to my car? Potted LR history since 1990:

Providing you replace the TPMS sensor with the correct LR type then the vehicle will detect it automatically. You may have to drive for about 10 - 15 miles before it is recognised but it will pick it up.

The sensor that I repaired in June 2016 was removed today when I replaced the tyres on my Freelander.
