Cast iron gas fire cleaning

Whilst I was in the shower this morning the wife decided it would be a good idea to warm her socks on top of the cast iron fire, forgot they were until I got out the shower & could smell burning! They we're not your average cotton sock, they were & after peeling them off it looks like melted plastic! I've tried to clean the top a bit more but there is still some on it, any suggestions on how to get this off , cheers guys

wire wool then fire black to repair the colour.
Hotspot Stove and Grate Black Polish
I bought a 2nd hand stove, wire brushed the surface rust spots away and treated with above, good stuff, but stinks on first few lights of fire At work

Once removed, wire wool, emery cloth, wire brush, use any method, you can repaint with a propriety stove spray paint available from the manufacturer or stove outlet, even e-bay, ( stove black is a touch old fashioned) These paints cure when the stove heats up ( normally a bit of a whiff but not a health hazard) my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

stove black stinks also,

agreed on paint idea, I guess it depends on the size of the repair.

My villager stove has a powder coat type surface much harder to recondition , the old hunter in front room is much simpler and easier At work
