Just taken the car in to have the PTC heater fused removed and also was offered a free health check on the the car whilst it was there.

The report came back and said that the rear brake pads are 80% worn this after only 14,000 miles

Has anyone else had their rear pads replaced yet at such a low mileage

I ask as mine's going in there on Thursday for the recall.

Can you jack up and have a look at one of the rear pads to check?
Either that or ask them to show you

Are you sure thats not meant to be 80% of your brake pads are left.

If you use a torch you can see the brake pads through the alloy wheels.

Mine has done 18000, and also had a free health check and no problems all items on the report marked as good.

Tread depth Front 4mm, Rear 5mm

Yes, was at T&C lunchtime today having it done. Got the report back saying rear pads 80% worn.

To be honest I would have thought that the front pads would wear out first as the car always dips quite a lot at the front when I touch the brakes, also the amount of dust on the front wheels would indicate that too.

I guess I'll have to take it back to them and complain about it, something isn't right somewhere. Never had this before on any other car that I've had. ______________________

I had mine checked at 30,000 miles and they have 80% left!!!!!!! and I tow a caravan, which increases brake wear so I would say, unless you have an auto and drive with a heavy touch then there should be minimal wear at 15000 miles

Yeah usually the fronts would be slightly more worn. Bit unusual to have 80% wear on the rears and no warning on the fronts.

Like the man said, maybe they meant 80% of pad still there?

Thats seems mental. I had an Accord Type-R as my last car which incidentally I drove like I stole all the time and the pads on that lasted just over 30k from the day the car was delivered, thats all round too. 09MY FL2 Td4 XS, Style Pack, Privacy Glass, Martinique Blue.. oh so very blue..

........maybe if you take the handbrake off, the rear pads will last a tadge longer...........

I'm at 27k, and not had to change them yet, and no warning at the 1st service that I'd get near to replacing them.

Wonder if your handbrake does stick a bit.

Thats just wrong ....

I'm at 44k miles, front and rear brakes both at way above 50% remaining. Also on original tyres and no lips on the edge of the discs ....

The rears do nothing, apart from keeping the back end in line!! The handbrake does not work on the discs so even IF you had a handbrake problem with that its nothing to do with the discs ...

Given my experience with the LR brand I would suspect some numpty in the service department talking through their back passage !!! Stornoway Grey GS ... What a fine motor ... but not any more ... ... psst look at my gallery!

Dave, just had mine done at TnC, was offered the free health check but refused after what you said.
Thought 'well I have the motor serviced so unless I pick up on something between services I will leave well alone'.

Alarmingly I heard a mechanic come out and explain to the receptionist that someone's rear pads needed replacing as they were '80% worn'. The receptionist then phoned whoever it was and gave them the bad news. I see a theme forming....
