United Kingdom 2014 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Manual Orkney Grey

I have just taken my winter wheels off and refitted the originals that came on the car. After about 10 miles the warning light came on and a message saying that the rear left true is not being monitored news displayed. This is the message that comes on when a spare wheels without TPMS is used.

The wheels all worked before being removed and the Evoque wheels Inused over winter all worked with the TPMS system, So I am thinking it may be the battery. The car is 20 months old, so I would have thought that they should last longer than this. Does anybody know the expected life of a TPMS sensor?

Tyoically this fault occurs on a bank holiday weekend, when I have to drive to the other side of he country. I note in the handbook it says that extended use of a wheel without TPMS will trigger TPMS fault warning. Is this something that I will need LR to sort out, or will it cancel when the TPMS sensor is sorted?

As the car is under warranty still I may becalling my dealer and see if they will sort it out but i really want the expense if they charge for it. I may quickly put the winter tyre back on just to see if that is detected, so to prove the system.

Gav.

Hi Gav,
You can clear the warning by pressing the "ok" button on the steering wheel.
The Amber TPMS will remain.
Will not affect the vehicle in any way.
DTC will be logged in SDD.
As your car is still under warranty I would let the dealer sort this out.
TPMS valve I would imagine would last far longer than this. Only reason for battery to be exhausted would be if that tyre was flat whilst off the vehicle and sensor was transmitting. Otherwise it would have been in sleep mode. MY15

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!

To Staurtc and pcheaven and Telco and all the other folks on here who have contributed to this stream on TPMS

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!

You folks are brilliant!

Received a brand new set of four R070840 from pcheaven's recommended supplier at the amazing price of £110 (for the complete set!).

Had them fitted this morning at 'Ted's Tyres' Bristol at the amazing price of £60 (fitting for the complete set)

Within a few miles the system set itself up and all the warning lights disappeared.

Bear in mind that these are 17 inch wheels/tyres running at the recommended pressure of 32 PSI (and the Metropolis comes with 19 inch running at 35 PSI)

I'm sure that LR066378 would have worked as well. (Maybe even LR058023 might have worked had I not bought some second-hand ones)

Guy Salmon were going to charge me £608 for sensors and fitting with no guarantee that it would work (i.e. if it didn't work I would not have received my money back). The bit that really annoyed me was that they said even Land Rover themselves may not know whether such a combination would work. I pointed out that the designer of the system at Land Rover would certainly know! Guy Salmon certainly weren't going to break into a sweat trying to find out for me. (Money spent at that dealership by me since October 2013 = over £100K....money to be spent by me in the future at that dealership = 'under review').

Anyway thanks again to all of you.....one Very Happy Easter Bunny here!

Happy Easter to all of you!

Gary

p.s. the ride on the 17 inch wheels/tyres is fabulous....RESULT
At this cost I may fit out the winter 18 inch wheel/tyre set in November. gj100

Thanks Stuart.

The warning was on for two 30 minute journeys to work and back and then for a 120 mile trip from Telford to Grantham. Today when I drove back home the waning light and message stayed off, so it has obviously sorted itself out. I had rang the the dealer on Saturday and booked it in to be seen, but as the appointment is a bit in the future I'll only cancel when I know it is behaving.

Gav.
