United Kingdom 2011 Freelander 2 TD4 S Manual Sumatra Black

Hardly ever use the one I was "given" for my birthday. It was decided we needed one for the Caravan so we don't go down unsuitable roads. Did use it a bit in France, but only after deciding route on map and ignoring it complaining!
With only historic traffic data it is no use to avoid jams - but the iphone etc maps often a bit behind too. FL2 11 S Black 😂

A relative of mine went from Devon to Lazenby in Cumbria to buy some sheep. When he got there he couldn't find the place he was after and called the guy he was meeting and after a long discussion discovered that he should have gone to Lazonby, about 80 miles away. I didn't ask if he used a sat nav. Laughing 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Never use them, a quick look at the map before I set off just get road numbers, junction numbers etc. I have to memorise routes/shortcuts as part of my job so I've never had to rely on sat nav.

I had one on my Fl2 XS and DS HSE only because it was standard spec, still don't even know how to use it. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

Fairly frequently on business. It is not so much for the main route but detail when you get near to where you are going. A lot of my clients will be on estates where the road system is often like a rabbit warren. I also find the journey time and ETA is normally fairly accurate. They are also useful, particularly on country roads showing where you have road junctions just after bends. Remember there are never problems, just new challenges

I'd be interested to know what magnification you have yours on when NOT routing, I have mine on 1/2 mile as I like to have the 'B' roads showing as well, but even this does not show minor roads and zooming in any further gives too small a map area.

England 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Manual Narvik Black

I use mine whenever I am in the car, although it is not the builtin one in my 2007 SE - that is useless.
I have the TomTom App on my iPhone in a vent mount and find it very good and, of course, the phone is being charged at the same time.
I find the sat nav useful for indicating how fast you are going compared to the road's speed limit - both are displayed.
It pings to remind me of the fixed speed cameras. ahead
Will quickly re-plan a route if there is a problem ahead.
It shows what the road layout is ahead and so gives me time to time to adjust speed, lane etc
I find the voice instructions very good on unfamiliar roads, roundabouts, junctions etc. - these can be turned off when not required.
However it is not perfect and can take you on some very interesting routes/roads. So when towing on a new route I always check the route with a map.
Another benefit of having the phone active is the bluetooth pairing with the car and being able to answer calls via the steering wheels controls without taking eyes off the road - and SIRI works well to make calls but that does require a thumb. Tattoos - Why would you choose to look like the wall of a public toilet?

I use mine for most non-regular journeys, even if I know the way.

It's there so why not use it? For the sake of entering a destination you get an ETA and traffic info. Although it has to be said that the traffic info (on my 2011 facelift model) is almost completely useless. Perhaps I'm an eternal optimist and one day it will actually prevent me from getting stuck in a major jam.

Having spent most of my working life routing abnormal loads all over the UK and mainly Scotland I have a great regard for maps. Used to update OS maps and had a cabinet full. Still use maps and my TomTom. If not in a hurray just follow the satnav and see parts of the country you would not normally see. Combined withe the voice of Billy Connolly giving directions makes a good drive. Also point about speed shown is excellent.
