As long as it is on the aluminium extruded section and there is 700 mm minimum distance between front & rear cross bars. Some people have noted it is better to place the front bar back a bit to reduce noise. Thus the rear bar would be placed further back to maintain at least 700 mm spacing (centre to centre).

Thanks for that. I'm using a box which isn't too long so have placed the rear bar just infront of the cross bar - that gives plenty of room to adjust the front bar if something longer is used, and keeps things as central to the wheel base as possible. |

Stick everything as far back as you can, from my experience much quieter and no vibrating roof box. Also this allows you to stand on the rear wheel to fill the roof box instead of standing on the rear seats. |

I regularly carry kayaks on my roof so have the rear crossbar just behind the brace bar, with the front crossbar slightly in front of the 'B' pillar.
