Bulb Upgrade

Hi guys,

I have just ordered some Osram night breakers, I may have ordered the wrong ones as on the plastic headlamp for the dipped it says h11/d1s so i went with the d1s but have not found the ballast pack which is obviously requires am i looking in the wrong place? or are they only compatible for the h11? i have also bought the the h7 halogen night breakers for high beam and are very good.

Any help or advice would be appreciated

D1S are the xenon units i think? H11 are the halogen

You only need a ballast with the Xenon and not the halogen,
So does your car have the Xenon or just the halogen, sounds like the headlamp will take both bulb variants depending on what is originally fitted

This is a D1s HID lamp, what are you wanting to upgrade?
The light housing has two lamps listed, the D1s is the dip/main beam, the H11 is the high beam only which comes on in conjunction with the dip/main HID lamp.

thanks for your replies.
yes thats the d1s i had ordered where on the lamp fitting it has h11/d1s on the dipped beam as if they are both compatible but cannot find if there is a ballast control unit ready? after i took it out it has a standard sram h11 in? does that mean it is only h11 that can fit the housing?

You cant just substitute a Halogen H bulb for a Xenon DS though, as youve found out a Xenon/HID needs a ballast which the halogen system doesnt have, the Xenon needs an auto leveling system and needs a headlamp wash fitted also.
Plus the car has to be also programmed to accept one or the other systems, so its not just change the bulb and thats it.
If it was that simple no one would run the Halogens which are hopeless in comparsion.

yes ok I get you, I do have the headlamp washers, which is why I thought it might be a case of fitting the ballast unit but as i now realise you have to do programming etc that now answers my question, thanks for your help

In the manual it's written H11 but it's a typo ... I have H7

In you picture there is a lamp shown on the right, that is the H11 high beam lamp, behind the glass lens on the left will be another lamp, possibly the D1s or is it another halogen lamp?

Do you have a control wheel on the dash to alter the beam height? It's near the light switch.

You have the thumbwheel then you have halogens, only suitable lamps to fit as is are H7 high beam and H11 low halogens.

I got to the bottom of it and have no got the osram night breakers and replaced to fog lights which are h11 and the dipped beam which are also h11 which i have been very impressed with and have a much brighter and whiter light.. however i also bought the osram night breakers in the high beam which are h7 bulbs and can see the light is a lot whiter which is what i wanted but seem that the high beam light has dropped and doesn't spread further and if anything worse than the standards especially notice this when on a country road which i travel to and from work most days on. any advice? i have checked the alignment of the bulb and its perfect i have also fitted the standard and seem to have the same problem? is it a case of taking it to an mot bay to re-adjust the lights?

thanks

I dont think you can adjust the main beams alone without adjusting the lot as its the headlight unit as a whole with the adjusters?
