United Kingdom 2015 Freelander 2 TD4_e SE Manual Orkney Grey

A bulb that blows at fairly regular intervals can be put down to that units less than satisfactory earthing, this causes irregular voltage through the bulb and shortens its life.
If one of your bulbs keeps blowing after short intervals, check where the units earth lead is attached to the body, remove it, clean it and refix it securely, apply a little Vasaline too to prevent future corrosion.

We had this on a Citroen Saxo, one head light blowing after a couple of months same bulb all the time, it was suggested by a garage it might be an earth fault and once that was cleaned up and resecured the light never blew again??

Worth checking?

Scotland 2013 Freelander 2 SD4 GS Auto Fuji White

2013 MY has an HB3 bulb, single filament and uses a shutter for dip, all previous models had a separate bulb for main and dip. Therefore 1 filament is on all the time.

Plus side, excluding HID lighting, since 2007 we have had 3 variations of standard headlamp and current HB3 is by far the best. 2011 change to projector lamps was by far a big step backwords from 2007.

Negative side, when bulb goes you have neither main or dip. All FL2's (3) Gone
2011 Mercedes C180 CGI Gone
FL2 GS Auto SD with heated leather, factory tints, alloy spare and a few other bits.

They're also not legal for use on the road and will be an MoT fail if spotted by the tester.

Does anyone know where the headlight units are earthed to the bodywork or does it just go back to the battery earth terminal somehow? All I can see is a big plug on the back of the unit. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

And congratulations to the dealer in Cambridge for supplying the wrong bulb first time. That's two twenty mile round trips. Should have given Dan a buzz I suppose. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone

I thought it was one bulb for dipped and one for main, must look again. It does make sense as I thought it strange that both main and dipped stopped working at same time.

2013 model is a single filament HB3 with shutter for dip.
I have just fitted Halfords + 120% and they are vast improvement.
I had nightbreakers and they were so bad I refitted originals. Possibly sold fakes from fleabay. All FL2's (3) Gone

Hello

Is HB3 different from H7. I guess it is , but all I can see on the Halfords website is H7.

Both original headlight bulbs have gone within 4 days of each other (MY13)

Hope its not a change every month thing from now on !
