I had a short flying USB extension lead that I could connect the laptop to, for updates etc.
Hot glue is fine and can be removed with ease leaving no marks.
The built in speaker is fine

thanks for that, I have an extention lead for the USB and a decent hot glue gun so thats sorted then

the only other snag then is the power options in the glove box nd it does need to go off when ignition is turned off or battery drain

I also have a short flying usb extension but make sure you get the right type - there is an extra pin within the usb that has to be wired or it won't work. I can't remember what it's called off the top of my head but it will be in one of my previous posts and they are readily available.

Also I would beg to differ re hot glue, although I guess it depends how good the glue is. I used a Bostik hot glue gun and in really hot weather (exacerbated by closed windows and doors) the glue went soft and the TomTom fell out!

I ended up doing it again with an adhesive gun - the stuff they use to fix car mouldings on with (Tiger?) It breaks down easily with WD40 if you ever want to get it off.

Id that the blue sticks that also fit into the glue guns? I have about 5 of them if it is

I remember what it was called now - Sikaflex. And no, they're big tubes that fit into sealant guns. But maybe use what you have and see what happens. It's easy to get the dash off again and re-do it. All I can say is that mine hasn't budged since using the black gloopy stuff

I also may have been wrong about the WD40 - I think it's hot glue that breaks down with that!

Well I can always pop a few sticky pads on as well to help I suppose.

It just needs to be solid. It will feel really if it moves as you press the screen

With regards to power, I used a 12v > 2 x female USB ports device from eBay. Then usb from that to the unit, via the extension b

yeah I get what you mean on this bit, forgot it was touch screen, so will have more push onto it that a non touch screen....gonna think about this. Sure I could get a bracket made to fit into the already present screw hole. Its the power that will be my main worry I think sorry x post

Are you running it from your front power socket then?

No. I wired the 12v > USB straight into the fuse box beneath the glove box, using a fused flying lead. Much easier than it sounds!

Everything looks good apart from the crimp, yellow is too big for the wire you will be using.

The blue one of these, 6mm fixing will be the one you need, if you don't have a crimping tool then make sure you have a good tight connection

Ah yes, forget it, the bit you are going to cut off has a power supply that changes 12v to 5v for the USB sockets, cutting it off will put 12v on the USB. This will not be good.
Get an ordinary one like this ...
