Well here it is, my DS replacement. Love it, it's good to be back in a proper LR.

Proper job j77. Keep us posted on how you get on with it - I know its not a Freely2 but we can forgive you that transgression. I would be very happy to have a D4 - the motoring journos that refer to it as past it's best are high on catnip. I would have a D4 if they had kept it aimed at the rugged utility side of 4 x 4 motoring where the D3 sat rather than the high tech luxury barge end of the market. But if you have to go into the rough at least you will be going in comfort.

Yep a lot of journalists says it's seen its day. I think this EU6 engine feels and sounds smoother, AdBlue tank says it has 15553mls till empty so won't need to touch it until service time.

My one being an SE has just enough luxuries. Has auto lights/wipers, front fogs and cruise control all recently added as standard kit. The cloth seats are really comfy compared to the DS leather seats. The only options I added are privacy glass and xenons. My DS had a good standard kit but I didn't use half it.

I'm really pleased with it, it feels right. I feel at home. If the Fl2 had still been in production I would've perhaps had one again. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

An absolutely super car. Comfortable, roomy, great driving position and superb off road. Enjoy!

United Kingdom 2008 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Manual Sumatra Black

Finally got round to driving a Disco Sport, managed to get one for the weekend when the Freelander was being serviced.

The good bits:
- The chassis is excellent. Great round bends and refined on dual carriageways.
- Much more quiet inside.
- Improvements to interior quality (but that also introduces some niggles).
- Styling is good from the front.
- More space in the back, which was appreciated by passengers.
- The ISOfix system is a welcome improvement.

The less good bits. Perhaps unkind, but there are more of these:
- Seat is less comfortable, just couldn't seem to get it in the right place. Could do with another inch of rearward travel.
- The centre console intrudes (it's further back) which means my knee rubs against it (I'm 6ft3). It might be different in a manual: the foot rest seems to be about an inch further back than it should be. Either way, it's not comfortable.
- Honourable mention for the seating position being a bit on the low side.
- Special mention for the radio controls. Why put them in the touchscreen? Okay, there's some controls on the steering wheel, but a few more buttons wouldn't have harmed. The volume knob is also too small and is on the wrong side of the console.
- Unconvinced by the glossy chrome finish on the air vents as they get reflected in the windscreen in bright light.
- Again unconvinced by the low roof at the back: it might grow on me, but I think I'd appreciate more load space
- The seven seats. Can I have a spare wheel (which I might use) rather than two seats that I'll never use?
- The speedo and tacho surround: what function does this perform, other than obscuring part of the dials?

Yes, it's a nice car.

But. I got back into the Freelander and it was like settling back into a comfy armchair. Perhaps 10k miles in a Disco Sport would change my mind about the seating position, but I'm not convinced.

Even with an 8 year old Freelander with 80k on it, I'm not in a hurry to change. A comfier DS might have convinced me, but for now I'm more than happy as I am.

If Land Rover come out with something a bit more Freelander-like than the Disco Sport, then I'll most likely be tempted by that. If a couple of years has passed and there's nothing new, then I suppose I'll finally get round to ordering the DS. Or something else.

The FL2 has ISOfix! Or do you mean the DS's is somehow better?

Better.

Then again, I've had seat covers on since day one so I can't remember what the rear seats look like... Confused

I've been driving a Discovery Sport for the first time today as a loaner whilst my Freelander 2 in for service. My overwhelming impression is that I was driving an Audi Estate: Well made, luxurious, and with all the gadgets...but the driving position is just too low down for me Sad

The Electric Tailgate is quite cool though!!

This one will see the year out Laughing I knew the day I picked the DS up I had made a big mistake, tried to make the best of it.

I've got a few mods planned, but buying two Land Rovers in one year has left a hole in the bank account. I've got a few simple ones to do on Sunday, LED interior lights and number plate lights but I think I'm short of bulbs, I didn't realise the SE came with puddle lights, and fit LED reverse lights.

I do fancy the 20" 501 style (I think) alloys and I'm not sure wether to go black pack or go silver as a bit of a contrast. Looking at roof rails as I liked them on my last one, also thinking about side tubes and about to order sill plates.

I did notice my didn't come with a model badge, SEs are badgeless and SE Techs are badged SE, just a useless bit of info. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

The November issue of Landrover Owner International Magazine captures the essence of the DS - "Its neither a true Discovery nor is it sporty".

They also do a comparison drive matching a DS against an Evoke - and their conclusion - both testers would actually rather have a Freelander 2!

Almost tempted to agree with CG.....

Must get coffee, and readjust mind set.

If it wasn't for the outrageous fuel economy ( esp in urban areas, which is where I live) I would have purchased one many years ago. If I lived in the countryside and could expect to see 30mpg occasionally - then NO CONTEST, its Diso all they way. Thumbs Up

edit - Beautiful colour, saw a FL2 upclose and personal yesterday in the same colour - looks amazing in the sun.
