That's become my benchmark test before running Susie off to the vets - have learned some needlessly expensive lessons during our 3+ years of ownership!

50 minutes into the "short 20 minute break" for the guns to have a drink after the first drive!

Saturday is the first day on our shoot - I can't wait, and neither can the Spaniel. The TransK9 will be used in anger (and mud and filth) as will the new sump and tank guards and all terrain Geolandar tyres. I also removed the Witter fixed tow bar and its ball and pintle hitch and fitted a removable one for improved departure angle.

We're also planning the next pup in the new year - a brown WCS dog. If anyone has any advice it would be welcomed. He'll be trained to the gun with professional guidance from the start but will be a house dog, so i'm looking for some working ability in his forebears but nothing too hot to be a pet in the off season.

npinks - that's a very kind offer. I am not really in the position of knowing any suitable dams unfortunately so am likely to buy directly through a breeder of repute. My trainer no longer has stud dogs or dams but he has offered advice on one that I feel may be right for us. He is quite well known in the gundog world and I trust his advice.

If you have any recommendations on breeders l'd be interested to hear them. Thanks. 2007 Freelander 2 XS TD4. Mantec Sump & Tank Guards, Yokohama Geolandar AT tyres

Just had to rush Susie up the vets as she was looking a bit dodgy - shaking, panting and whining when we touched her. Belly looked a bit swollen too. Of course, she perked up when she got there but the vet reckons adrenaline can do that. Anyway, she checked her over and couldn't find anything out of order so we are just keeping an eye on her for now. My wife tells me she ate a bit of poo when they were out today - horse, dog and rabbit. Hopefully just a belly ache - just resting in her bed now looking sorry for herself. £47.50 Kerching! Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

Well, I slept downstairs with her last night until she finally went off at about 2:00. Got up this morning and she's as right as ninepence. Even got her 'wag' back. Phew! Just cooking her some chicken and rice for breakfast - she likes that when she's been poorly. Bow down Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

Had an incident 2 years ago with our labrador. He was shaking and looking pathetic so took him straight to the vet. By the time we got there he was as right as rain. Took him back home again and it started again. Then discovered that it was the neighbour's smoke alarm giving that high-pitched battery-low 'squeak' - barely audible to me but enough to drive the poor dog crazy.

This is Cooper (aka Yorkshire Dale).

He was the runt of the litter but now at 3.5 he's grown into a tall chap.

Take him once a year to the vets for the usuals and all I get is 'oooh he's towards the top of his weight scale'. He's 24kg.
