Another Spaniel lost today. My friends 14 year old Spaniel had been having severe breathing troubles for a while and today she had to be put out of her suffering. Only comfort for them was that they were on good terms with their vet so instead of a Covid handover, the vet arranged for a cannula to be fitted, they stepped back, my friend and her partner were then able to be with Gem while she quietly and comfortably slipped away. Gem was the sister of Ted who died suddenly last year. Most of my friends all have Spaniels and most of the dogs are related but as time goes on, just like humans, they are all coming to the later stages of their lives. Mind you, they have all had fantastic lives and been well cared for. Ours is only 8 so hopefully we have a few good years left together yet. Oh, I’m getting upset just thinking of it. Some of the gang with Gem front right. Sad

Seems even more heart wrenching than usual Steve in these weird times, makes you love them even more, looking at my two today brother and sister Border terriers and just hit 11 year old, kept me sane that I know, but trying not to think of the day when something will happen as the bitch has diabetes and dog is getting a bit stiff , bless them.

Stay safe all

Took Susie over the allotment today. She loves a dip in the water troughs. Whenever she’s in water, she can’t resist sticking her head under and rooting about on the bottom - she often picks up stones or waterlogged branches.

I was listening to the Vine show on Radio 2 today and the subject was dog theft. Apparently the most popular dogs to be stolen are...Cocker Spaniels. Shocked My friend had her spaniel stolen - the 'deaf 'un' mentioned somewhere earlier in this thread. She noticed it missing and a white Transit van speeding off and put up flyers everywhere. She even went onto a couple of travellers sites screaming blue murder at them, effing and blinding. After a day she had a phone call from someone with a heavy Irish accent asking if there was a reward for the missing dog, she said yes and agreed to meet with them in Brentwood High Street. Apon meeting the men with the dog she broke down crying, people noticed her, someone said "it’s the missing dog" and the two blokes did a runner, leaving the dog. A few weeks later she took it on the Alan Titchmarsh show when they did a section on dognapping. Keep an eye on your Cockers lads, I just don’t know what I’d do if ours was stolen. On her dog tag, I have "I am chipped and spayed" engraved on the other side to our name, contact and postcode. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

seems there is a spate of spaniel thefts in my part of the country too.

with regards to the chipped and speyed notifications on the tags I don't think it makes a bit of difference. Chipping is hit and miss as it depends on someone trustworthy scanning it, and speying just means they cant use her for breeding but will still use the poor thing (dog or bitch) for training bait.

these people really are the scum of the earth and the punishments aren't anywhere near harsh enough.
