what is the difference between xs-e and xs ? what does the e stand for .

The XS also has stop/start if it has a manual gearbox. XS was introduced for 2011 Model Year and came with either a 150 bhp engine or 190 bhp engine. XS-e was generally pre-2011 Model Year and had the 160 bhp engine.

to find out what the "e" actually stands for you would need to ask the LR marketing dept. My guess would be electronic.

However, we have a 60 reg GS.e and an 11 reg GS both manual and both have stop/start. The only other difference is that the 11 reg is the facelift version with lower emission engine. (and not a VW!) 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

The e was added to cars with stop/start technology as it was new to LR in 2009. It was all part of their e-terrain technologies, I would imagine it stands for nothing more than efficient or Eco. Now it's the norm the cars no longer need to feature the e. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

I assumed the e stood for economy, as thats the idea with the stop start to improve your mpg, and thus emissions when standing idle in traffic.

If youve an auto though you have permission to be as uneco as you like as that doesnt have the feature

Right, update the car has the button on the dash, when pressed stop start turned off. It's now with land rover and still there saying they are not sure if it's has or not:shock:

the e stands for eco and should have the stop start, although if yours has the original battery it may not work.

Thanks lain, yep told LR the same, I'm not sure what is going on, all I want is it to work. I might get the car back and sort myself

I'm no expert but my 59 plate, 2010MY "HSE TD4e" has stop-start tech on it. The "ECO" button on the centre console turns it off/on. The button is always on whenever you first start the car.
Whether the stop-start works or not depends on a lot of things like battery condition, whether the A/C is on, whether the lights are on etc. etc. etc.

Personally, if I had stop start on a manual, i'd leave it switched off all the time. All manufacturers are suffering with premature dual mass flywheel wear due to the massive amount of times the cars are being start etc.

Mav. The dual mass flywheel was going on my previous car, an Audi A4. This did not have stop start and I would put most of its miles on driving to work on a Sunday night and return on the Friday afternoon. The journey was 100 odd miles each way. I sold the car with 80k on the clock. I am intrigued by what is causing them to fail, but it could be a number of factors.

I reckon it that people these days don't seem to know what their handbrake is for and they balance the car on the clutch on hills while waiting for lights to change etc. I see it every day in and around Hastings which has some pretty steep hills.
