England 2013 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Lux Auto Santorini Black

My DMF went at 60k, slave cylinder had blown its seals (no pun intended) and leaked oil onto the DMF which killed it over time.
DMF are failing in VW/Audi/LR and pretty much any other diesel manual car. They are there to reduce the transmission vibrations and take quite a beating on start up as well as normal running.

Are you saying that 1000's of drivers across the country (even in Lincolnshire where it is flat with no hills) are riding the clutch ? Shocked

Millions maybe. That's my observation. Maybe they're not confident doing a hill start??? Confused

sadly I fear you could be correct............. my daughter would be useless at hill starts if it wasn't for the hill start assist on her little Vauxhall Adam Laughing

But seriously, there is definitely an issue with DMF not being up to the job across all manufactures and repeated stop/start from modern 'eco' cars only puts a lot more strain on all components (I normally turn mine off on my Insignia as I find it can be a pain in the Censored )

They all beefed up the start motor to cope, but not the flywheel.

Interesting point but how does frequent restarts translate into DMF wear? When the car restarts it's in neutral so no clutch movement and little load on the DMF as the only bit turning is the gearbox input shaft. Surely the number of clutch movements is that same in traffic even if the car stops and restarts a few times? Presumably we are talking about wear on the ring gear and starter? 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

United Kingdom 2009 Freelander 2 TD4_e XS Manual Stornoway Grey

Hi

I have owned my 2010 HSE e for about three weeks now and travelled about 500 miles. Only once has the start stop kicked in. Perhaps the biggest advantage of the little button and light is the saving on the road fund licence compared to non e models Laughing

shouldnt be hard- stop start models have different alternator, and battery for starters, not to mention the CCF file will have options selected or it Smile

How would cars like this be seen with a driving examiner? I have been using our VW T5 van all week, this I discovered has hill assist, makes hill starts a dream, with auto dipping mirrors, rear cameras and parallel parking, are there rules in force to stop the use of these on a test?

Ps might split the thread if it gets too big Thumbs Up
