My 13MY Fl2 got serviced at 5.5k miles, DPF never gave me any problems over the year I had it. 6 of my LRs have had DPFs and never gave me any trouble, I give them a good run a couple of times a month just to help keep them clean. An excuse to escape for a bit really. Wouldn't even know it was there.

My 16MY Discovery uses AdBlue, so this will interesting to see how this goes.

Didn't realise that the Discovery uses AdBlue ?

All EU6 diesel LRs use Adblue to reduce emissions, with exception of the Discovery commercial as it doesn't need to meet them until next year I believe. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

Looked at 62 plate gs yesterday , 20,000 leather, heated windscreen, full size spare , tints, came close to doing a deal but not quite right, think I might miss the sat nav not being built in , was one in Lincoln with nav but now sold so the search goes on

My FL2 is back in the dealers again after they failed to fix the latest fault (Reduced Engine Power). I was trying to rational and decide just how reliable these cars actually are. My brother in law has one that has done 110k miles and nothing has gone wrong with it at all. In my family's case 3 out of 4 with big problems. We know of others with diff and suspension problems at relatively low mileages.
I know that the people who come on this forum are unrepresentative as they are generally the ones with problems but a lot of people out there with problems don't bother with forums and presumably just get their cars fixed under warranty or just pay up. So has anyone any inside information on the real reliability figures for a Freelander 2?

Currently researching Toyotas and Mitsubishi. any views on those? 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

I haven't heard any horror stories so far, I've yet to take delivery. On the big Disco it should last until its first service, on the DS EU6 which has 2 year service intervals it will require a top up by the owner.

It freezes at -11 and doesn't like temperatures above 25. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

The Japanese manucturers have been plagued with serious safety recalls over the past couple of years, especially Toyota. The cars as a whole seem to be pretty reliable and reasonably well put together. I've had a couple of Hyundais, a Tucson and a Santa Fe and would go back to them in a minute. The new Tucson looks very nice.

I know some can't get over badge snobbery, but the Hyundai brand has come on leaps and bounds and my dealer at the time couldn't be more helpful, they appreciated the business rather than take it for granted like LR. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

I know on trucks/coaches the adblue tank is a separate tank to the fuel tank, and has a blue filler cap.

But how will adblue be added to fuel on cars/4x4 etc ?

Buy it in a bottle and add 50ml per tank or is it another dealer scam for more money whereby only LR can top it up ??

It can be bought from the dealer or some motor factors stock it. VW charge £1.50/litre inc fitting. LR include it in their service schedule.

The big Disco has the AdBlue filler next to the fuel filler in a separate tank. The DS I think has its filler under the bonnet.

Four new tyres, at that mileage they could well be shot or not have much left, if they have been replaced then make sure they are the original type and not a set of 'cheapies' dealers have had their knuckles wrapped recently for selling cars with non genuine bits attached, I would hope this included tyres, might be a good last minute bargaining chip Thumbs Up

A good look around it, check it all works and away you go, these early mornings with misty Windows will let you check all the heated screens and mirrors are working too.
