LR Sat Nav - not easy to setup

Wife's 2014 FL2 has Sat Nav.
I like to have the map rotating so that the road ahead is always upwards and facing the way Im going with the marker at the bottom of the screen. Ive tried to set this up in the LR Sat Nav but it doesnt seem to work properly with the road ahead swinging about 45o to either side - this inconsistency is quite disorientating at times - my direction of travel on the screen can be nearly horizontal instead of vertical!
The setup is not very intuitive so can anyone offer a solution ?

I use the freebie Google Maps on my phone cos the 2009 BMW Sat Nav is rubbish (cant do full postcodes) and is now 6 years out of date and costs a mortgage to upgrade. Jules

I may be wrong, but if you press that button at the top of screen, the one mark 3D 2D or always pointing North I think you can change it. MY13 HSE LUX Aintree Green

Yes, the 2D/3D button has a north up or direction option so you are generally seeing the map in the orientation you need it.

Sat Nav

Biggest let down of my FL2 is the sat nav.
Finally gave up on it last week and bought a Garmin Nuvicam. Dashcam and satnav combined, huge screen and 100% better guidance.

100% better guidance suggests that the LR sat nav was getting you lost all the time?
I have had mine 12 months in this car and not once has it failed to get me where I have asked it, I would be invested to hear why the Garmin is do much better.
Admittedly the LR product is not the fastest but routing wise it is fine and in all honesty I rarely need it for more than the last couple of miles of a journey anyway.

I don't understand why the sat nav gets bad press. I still have a Garmin that I used in a previous car and it is not a patch on the LR one. I use the sat nav every day and have never had any problem in getting to a destination with various choice of routes.

As Taz said it is mainly for the last few miles.

I use my sat nav on just about every journey , even to places I know how to get too, I use for the traffic info , to see if the road ahead is congested tbh the info part is poor but so is the traffic info on my hand held to tomtom. I don't see anything wrong with the LR sat nav , I'm going to be using to go from Hamilton to Brittany via telford next month and I 100% faith in it. Do it now ! Your a long time dead !!

Mines also great! Infact fantastic, heaps of features and the screen is just like using my iphone being able to scroll and drag. Either that or my expectation were really low. MY15

Have to admit I only use sat nav for the last couple of miles. If I'm going somewhere very complicated (unfamiliar city) I normally do a quick walkthrough using google streetview so I can recognise where I'm trying to get to. I find the 'take me home' feature really good at getting me out of towns and onto the correct road. I have a garmin on my bike and find the mapping no better or worse than the LR one. FL2 Metropolis, Loire Blue, ebony/ivory

No, it's quite feature rich in reality, plenty of screens and info available, offers different routing options and even when not actually programmed with a route still gives information, ie motorway exit distances, road conditions ahead.
The POI database can be added to, I have speed cameras and dentists added.

The only gripe I have is that when you try and program a route with voice command it lets you get too far before it realises you haven't accepted the disclaimer and kicks you out, you then have to accept the disclaimer and start all over again, other than that it has been excellent in my view.

It's not a bad bit of kit, I have loaded in the UK speed camera database and it works quite well with ample warning. Also have uploaded European ACSI caravan sites that are positioned to the front gate by co-ordinates for when caravaning in Europe.

Via the SatNav menu and a USB stick, both sets of POI's are in GPX format for uploading into memory.
