Lower Ball Joint removal

Evening......

Hoping someone can give me some hints on removing the lower ball joint / wishbone from the knuckle.

I see in the workshop manual, there is a special clamp to compress the suspension. I have been using the approach detailed here : http://www.freel2.com/forum/topic16201.htm...el+bearing

Jacking up the front hub. I did have spring compressors, but they seem to have walked ..........

Lower ball joint it all most out, so maybe just need too keep at it.

Too dark now, so given up. Discovery 3 SE

Remove the clamp bolt, and hammer the knuckle downwards. It will slide off the bottom of the strut, and can be pulled outwards and upwards off the ball joint

If youre hammering be careful you dont scratch the paint on the suspension components then.

Yes, onto the ball joint, CV back in the hole, then hammer upwards onto the strut

If you can wedge a chisel into the groove in the clamp, it slides on and off much easier, and involves much less hammering Thumbs Up

Success !!!!

Lower bolt not on brake dust shield not budging 😪

Assume I now need to remove the whole drive shaft to get the outer CV joint off ? Need to clear some of the greece out, so I can see the clip. Discovery 3 SE

A little late, but this is the method I am using for removing lower ball joint from the knuckle (see below from 2:00 to 2:25)....
Sometimes, when you don't have that special clamp (from 2:05 to 2:09), a single blow with a hammer in the correct place on the knuckle is loosening the ball joint inside the knuckle.
Then a good old crowbar does the job. Very Happy
That's all... Thumbs Up

Great video Alex, pity it was too late !

Next job is to change the outer CV joint if you have any videos up your sleeve Very Happy

Drive shaft is out, worryingly looking rather dry, so will need to check the diff oil level when I put it all back together. Discovery 3 SE
