There is a bit about headlight bulbs here

http://www.freel2.com/forum/topic21903.html

My drivers side blew followed by my passenger side followed by drivers side followed by my..........and so on and so on.

I do not use the auto headlamp function now and have gone 8 months without blowing any bulbs!! Not conclusive evidence but just my experience

Actually that link is mostly about high output bulbs but there is a bit regarding bulb failures. There are other threads as well if you do a search

Thanks Steve, with all the different options on bulbs out there, those of us with limited/no technical knowledge have to rely on advice and suggestions from others. Last time the bulb failed, I did ask if it was worthwhile changing the make of bulb, only to be told that the bulb fitted as standard was not showing a generally high failure rate with other owners.
I do run with the setting on auto, so from that it point it is to be expected.
Maybe next time one goes I should change both! One Discovery, gone
Now on third Freelander 2

I never replaced a single bulb on any car Ive had over the last 50 years, until I had a FL2, maybe the bulbs they fit these days are just poor quality?? after all if they never blew they wouldnt sell many would they? and I think thats basically what it all about these days, how do we get more money in.

I have just had to replace the passenger side headlamp bulb, two months after the drivers side.
Just wondered if this was coincidence or is this the life expectancy of standard fit bulbs from new?

I'm assuming that you have the halogen style HB3 bulb. As you have the led light unit regardless if you have signature lights or not all vehicles are fitted with one bulb/one element Rolling Eyes for dip and full beam. When you pop on full beam you will hear a faint mechanical shutter noise which is the shutter fully opening for full beam. My guess is that when driving on dip beam the shutter which covers half of the bulb may cause the bulb to heat up a fair bit hence the premature failure overtime Thumbs Up MY14 Kahn Converted Dynamic - Fuji White Ebony/Pimento Interior

Yes!!

There are a few posts about this if you search. In my 2 1/2 years of ownership I must have replaced 8 or 9 headlight bulbs, though the originals last 12 months

I do not use the "auto" facility any more, which seems to help, though I managed to drive about 4 miles in the dark the other day with no lights before someone flashed me!!

I have never had a vehicle go through headlight bulbs like my LR2. I have tried multiple bulb makes, from cheap to really expensive. Some last only weeks!! The electronics all check out so I see no fix??

I now buy cheap ones in bulk, and can change them out faster than a pit crew at the Daytona 500!!

Had two headlamp bulbs go on same car last month. Incidentally when I had one go last year the car subsequently failed MOT on headlamp adjustment even though I had tried to put everything back in the correct position. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto

Never ever used 'Auto' lights position but can't see that as a reason.
