I am thinking about buying these mudflaps from Powerful UK: http://www.powerfuluk.com/products/land-ro...03324.html

I notice a bit of drilling is required. Not too worried about the fitting, but wondered if I ordered OE mudflaps instead whether I would still need to drill holes etc?

Ive just fitted OE Land Rover fronts, yes you do have to do drilling, its exactly the same procedure as the repro ones youre looking at.
OE Land Rover ones are better material and flex more so less likelyhood of them cracking if caught unlike the harder plastic of the repros

Someone has said in other mudflap threads that he fitted OE fronts, and aftermarket rears.

Already have the aftermarket rears from PowerfulUK, they fit well, and seem good quality. However, I think perhaps I should get OE for the front.

Yes Ive fitted OE fronts and the Powerful rears, I used extra fixing screws on the rears too rather than just rely on the 2 and a spring clip, the clip doesnt inspire confidence it will stay put for long somehow?.

Definitely best to go for OEM fronts then, is that right?

Well its up to you, I mean if youre not going off road or likely to need to go up any high kerbs where they could get caught etc then the repro ones would be ok I guess??
My reason for fitting the OE fronts were, as they were more involved bracket wise, need cutting and drilling I had more confidence the originals would be spot on where as thats not always the case with repros.

I think you're right. Lets face it, its an expensive motor and you cant have cheap stuff bolted on. The rear repro flaps are ok, the fit is pretty good although I think OE might fit a bit tighter.

Tip:
When you get the OE fronts use the Powerful UK online video to see how to fit them and follow that, the LR instructions arent exactly that clear to follow or understand and the Powerful procedure is exactly the same.

I see theres a set of mudflaps for the Freelander on e bay for £399.99, wonder what sort of quality they are??

I'm pretty sure they are from the same source as OEM as they have the LR EGG logo ( blanked out) moulded into them

For what it's worth my son does a lot of off roading in his job and his front mudflaps didn't last long before one was virtually torn off . We think that they were original equipment. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto
Now Discovery Sport P250 MHEV SE

Depends on the roughness of the off roading I suppose, you can rip off an exhaust system too thats OE so that doesnt last long either, you have to exercise a certain degree of care with anything or it will end up wrecked.
