Looks like the air inlet pipe from the throttle body. Obvious thing to do is remove the top cover and see if the pipe is split or the jubilee clips need replacing (or just tightening). Removal of the top cover is easy, just undo the nuts and lift off but the rear one near the battery is a bit fiddly and you might lose the nut down the back of the engine in the process. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Oil leak is close to the dipstick. Last service was in September. I'll lift off the plastic engine cover as soon as I have access to the car again.

Don't overtighten the nuts when you put the cover back on! Easy to strip threads. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone

My Freelander leaked engine oil from the same place that the intercooler pipe seams to spew oil out if the clamp and connection isn't tight enough. I borrowed my Mates ramp to find a oil leak as I noticed drips of oil on my drive. When I removed the under tray everything was coated in oil that had splashed out. I have also noticed a slight increase in Power. |

Okay. I removed the engine cover and spent some time cleaning the oil off. As per suggestion from above, yes it does seem that the jubilee clip is not tight enough at the top of the hose where it joints onto the metal body.
