United Kingdom 2009 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto Lago Grey

Hi to all, thought I'd introduce myself.

After months and months of deliberation I've finally gone and done it, and ordered a new Freelander 2. I normally choose cars pretty quick, wander into a showroom and 'I'll have that one' type of thing. Not so this time, I must have test driven everything!

My last 2 cars were Merc's so I had high expectations on ride comfort, fit and finish. I found the Merc ML was overpriced, BMW X3 and 5 were far too stiff and uncomfortable, the various Jap boxes were just too cheap feeling, only the VW Toureg really stood out as competition to the FL and RRS.

My final choice came down then to RRS or FL2, very tempted by the pay 50%/50% in 2 years time on an RRS SE, but in the end decided an FL2 auto in HSE was the better option. I can put the money saved on the RRS towards a fast noisy mid life crisis toy if I can persuade SHMBO...at least that's my thinking!

Must say I was really disapointed by many of the dealers. The guys at Milton Keynes were attrocious, no one in sight in the showroom, huffing when I asked to speak to a salesman, no one bothered to return any calls. Shocking treatment, really bad. I nearly went down the road to VW but decided to persist with another dealer and I'm glad I did. Stratstones in Nottingham were excellent, really worked hard to get my business and get me the car I wanted, and I've given them the order! Being built Oct and delivered Nov, now I just can't wait! I love getting new cars...

Keith

Welcome, There is still a longish waiting list then even with the current market? Or did you order a few extras to ensure you get a factory fresh car instead of a stock car? At work

I did raid the options list a little which meant factory order, Nov was my choice, last payment on my current Merc is in Oct.

I found the hardest decision was the colour! FL's in the flesh don't quite look the same as in brochures or web sites.

I originally wanted something like Honda's GP white, a colour that really 'pops', but Alaska white didn't do it for me, I ended up going for Lago grey

Oh no !! you've done it now colour preference seems to be the most contentious on this site. i for one would rather have a purple FL2 than a black Kia Sportage. When making my decision colour was well down the list. There I've said it .........i expect to find CG and a bunch of other outside my house with black pointed sheets and flaming crosses Razz

Moi Question

black pointed sheets Rolling with laughter

We've got to argue about something, other wise there would be way to much man-love on here. At least colour isn't a money thing so less chance of causing proper offence. Apologies to the colour blind who don't have a clue what we are talking about Laughing

Oh yes by the way today we walked passed an A4 convertible (black no towbar) and I suggested to Mrs G that one of those might be our next car and she got all defensive about 'her' FL2 ....Its never hers when it need washing Laughing . Anyway she has declared the FL2 the best car we have ever had Thumbs Up strong praise from a demanding woman (I suspect its because the seat height adjust is powered and goes really high Rolling with laughter ) At work

Lago Grey's a nice choice Thumbs Up (by the look of the photos i've seen)

My Black kia Sportage was a nice choice (for the money) but was better once it was written off Laughing

I will only come in my black pointed sheet if the 3M double sided sticky tape holds the cross together better this time Rolling with laughter Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Not convinced I've made the right choice but I'll live with it - if I hate it I'll just drive across a few fields and leave it 'eau-naturelle' then it should look just perfect.

I have the same problem with my other half (small but 'perfectly' formed as she puts it Razz )

One of the reasons for wanting the memory seat, it used to vex me pumping the seat back down from highest to lowest (God knows what passers by thought i was doing Embarassed ) There are advantages however when sitting behind her legroom is like being in a limo!
