My FL2 has the "black lump/aerial" and it does not have GPS - it does however have DAB (wouldn't be without it Thumbs Up ) so presumably it is a multi-functional device. Question

Is the thread died?

I have a July 2007 HSE which was advertised as having DAB. However when I try and cycle through FM1 FM2 DAB1 DAB2 the two DAB's are missing. There is a fuse in the DAB Fuse Socket, the book is full of instructions for DAB, but the NS rear window does not have a connector on the aerial.

I have therefore deduced that it was not made as a DAB equipped vehicle. Has anyone worked out a cost effective way of obtaining and upgrading to the factory supplied units?

Thanks in advance. Thumbs Up

Trade description comes into play then if they sold you a vehicle that was advertised as having DAB but does not have it.

Personally I would return to the supplying dealer and ask for a demonstration of the system. If they can't show you then some free goodies should be the order of the day Thumbs Up ______________________

That is an argument for next week thanks Dave, but in the mean time it would be nice to have a more experienced owner tell me I am wrong and that all I have to do is press the hooter for 3 seconds while standing on one leg - to make it all work. Laughing

There's no need to press any button for X secs to make DAB work, just repeated press of FM button

The manual for the FL2 is irrespective of what you have, as it cheaper for LR to do it that way. There was once somebody on here who sId he could do it, but said parts alone where £400+, which is funny for a £200 option and never came back to say what parts he used or how he did it. IF he ever actually did

Try emailing Iain at Offroad Essentials (forum sponsor) I think it was something he looked at on his FL2 Commercial Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

I have also being looking into getting the DAB radio retro fitted but hit a bit of a dead end.

Then it dawned on me use a portable DAB radio via the Aux input, something like this:

Or this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/PURE-Highway-Car-R...B0012GLXMU

During my research I heard that there is a company offering a retrofit option http://www.cartronics.co.uk/ but I never bothered contacting them as I also heard it was very expensive, so if anyone is still intrested maybe they can contact them. 2007 Baltic Blue Freelander 2 HSE
Saving for a RRS HSE - Ouch!

Ok, this isn't really a solution as there are a number of other variables that need to be in place, but when the conditions are right, it is brill.

1) Buy an iPhone
2) Get the Tunein Radio App.
3) Get a Griffin iPhone cable dock thing
4) Be somewhere where there is at least an edge or 3g signal
5) Listen to the radio!!!

The clarity is great Smile Hi Darling, I'll be home in 10 mins. If I'm not back, please read this message again...

I know this is a old thread but if any one wants to fit a easy retro fit dab purchase a Autodab unit. The unit simply connects to your oem radio via rds transmition channel names etc come on screen.
I fitted a autodab unit which works great but you need to fit a active bee sting antena on the roof i used the blaupunkt unit which has the best reception possible.

I think that the "Digital" FM button refers to the phase locked loop technique for building an FM tuner so it's still analogue. Mind you, DAB reception is a bit flaky outside major towns (bit like 3G phone signals) I had a discussion once with a bloke down the road who swore that he could get DAB on his radio. It turned out that he had been listening to FM for a couple of years and didn't realise it.
As for retrofitting a DAB doesn't the radio have to be introduced to the ECU requiring a trip to the dealer?

Taking Turboextreme's advice for a retrofit, I've just had a Dabmotion Rola Dab unit fitted in the nearside rear quarter near to the factory fit boot light behind the panel. The remote control fits on the dash just under the START button with double sided tape.

I now get all DAB stations through the standard head unit set to one preset frequency. I'm delighted with this mod that is non-intrusive to the standard factory head unit and works well.

There is a review at http://www.talkaudio.co.uk/index.php/index...rola-r1796
