Sat Nav update - now doesnt work

Hi all,

I recently purchased a new 2011-2012 sat nav dvd of europe from ebay. All land rover own and still in the original wrapping. Delivery very prompt etc. No worries.

Tried to get it up and running today and thats when the problems started. Came up with a note on the screen after I put the disk in that it would need to update as it was running a different version and that would take about 15 mins. So I pressed continue and waited. And waited, and waited and waited some more.

After about 30 mins of the sat nav turning itself on, main menu page showing and the navigation button 'depressing' as if selected then sitting there then turning itself off and starting again still nothing had happened.

By this time I had to run to sort some other bits out and turned the engine off and left the car with the dvd still in the sat nav. Now all its doing is sitting there when i turn it on again with as if the nav selection button is depressed but wont do the restart. Just sits there.

Little stumped now. Hope that its an easy fix and ive been a numpty and forgotten to do something.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Ta

Do a search on here loads of threads on it, but basically just stick the discs back in a be patient, it can take an hour or more, if the buttoned is depressed it is because it is loading the update. Thumbs Up

Not sure if it's going to help, but from previous posts on here, I've learnt that the Sat Nav update can be a real pain in the backside if you attempt to do it while the car is sat on the drive with the keys in the ignition.
I put my disk in and had a similar message to you, then simply went for a drive until the Sat Nav update ran its course and everything worked fine after around 15 minutes, "some people have reported it taking up to 45 minutes". You have two choices as I see it, get in your car and drive around to see if it sorts itself out, or remove the disk, check for grunge, re-insert it and go for a drive around. Thumbs Up

Everything comes to he who waits...
Be patient, or like Wing did, go for a drive around. Mine only took around 5 minutes to update from 2008 to 2011 discs. It's much easier to use now, but still no where near as easy as a TomTom. Poke it, Poke it, make it do it again!!

I'll not go there. I've complained too much elsewhere already about this C**p Nav.

It should update eventually if you leave the disc in and drive it. 10MY (Sept 09) TD4 HSE Auto in Stornoway Grey (Now Gone)

Mine took a month (seriously) before it started working again. Just make sure you leave the new disk in, don't be tempted to put the old one back in.
The update process will work with the ignition on (the engine doesn't have to be running) however when I tries this I got a low battery warning after approx 30 mins and the sat-nav shutdown.
When I spoke to Landrover they do the update with ignition only and the car connected to a battery charger to prevent the low battery warning from shutting the auxiliaries down.

Yours will probably sort itself out during the next long drive.

Driftpuma mine was the same as yours, started to update on the drive without engine running and the nav button looked like it was depredssed for over an hour so took it for a drive and after about 10 minutes the screen went blank then came back on and everything was done, worked fine ever since. Gone, 2007 TD4 SE Auto Baltic blue, clear side repeaters, full sized alloy spare.

Just updated mine to 2011/12.

Was not sure of procedure so I started car removed old disc , inserted new one and approx 15 mins later all done.

Just tried it over the weekend and all seems fine, much improved over 2009/10.

Bought my discs from Ebay at £55 , came fully sealed in LR boxes so I believe to be genuine.

Thanks for all the replies - Managed to get the system working properly now. Not tried it fully but it does seem a marked improvement over the old 2007 disks I had in there!! Tho as has been stated before, no match for a tom tom!

Reeventu - I think i brought from the same person as you did!!

Thanks one and all again for your help.
Thumbs Up

Glad this thread was here! I just upgraded from 2007 to 2015 (for £35) and it took 3 1/2 hours. Strapped it to a charger and left the ignition on! 2007 FL2 2.2 TD4 SE in Sumatra Black Pearl

Complete waste of space. Buy a "Tom Tom" with "free map updates for life" and you can update every day of the week if you feel so inclined.

Hi Stuart,

To the best of my knowledge it affects all FL2,s right up to the last one.
But as the coverage has always been less that useful (ie if you go on to
private property) ie in the UK Forestry Commission land and also quite a few
out of town shopping malls I have since 2007 left the display as a clock and use
my Tom Tom. which has only ever failed me due to operator error.
